This looks like a yuri-licious year so far. We already have Aoi Hana coming out in April.

Actually, it comes out in July. (anime#10672) Still, good year for yuri fans. I haven't read this manga, but I will definitely check it out. |

Well, in 2006 there was one yuri title, Strawberry panic, Kashimashi and Otoboku were fake yuri. Simoun was about gender bender. Instead, Sasameki Koto and Aoi Hana are yuri titles. |

True, this is probably the first time we have actual yuri anime. |

Lets not forget Maria Holic, the other "fake yuri". Except that series was exceptionally awful. Also, maybe one could consider Best Student council yuri, even though its only hinted. Oddly enough though, I actually enjoyed that series (although cliche, it did make me laugh a couple of times.)
Also Maka Maka is a also another good yuri series. |

There's plenty of actual yuri manga already; it's yuri anime what's non-existence (till now). Since this is the first time actual yuri manga is going to be adapted to anime, this would be the first time we got actual yuri anime (duh lol). Anyway, looking forward to this one and Aoi Hana. |

Is this actualy yuri, or shoujo-ai?
Because, if it's yuri, shouldn't it be for adults only (like any real yaoi series)? |

No. You see, the belief that shoujo-ai is to shounen-ai as yuri is to yaoi is a mistake amongst much of the Western fandom. Yuri covers both explicit (focus on sex) and non-explicit (focus on relationship) lesbian content. In actual Japanese use, shoujo-ai refers to something else entirely. |

To put it simple, shoujo-ai doesn't exist; whether sexual or romantic, explicit or implied, in Japan it's all called yuri. Specifically talking about Sasameki Koto, I'd say it's the yuri version of your tipical romantic comedy, so the most graphically explicit it gets it's a few kisses here and there (I actually remember two). What makes Sasameki Koto great, is that the feelings of romantic love are not subtext: they're not hinted, by rather explicitly stated. That's what makes it *actual* yuri. Not entirely; Shoujo Sect was made into an anime/OVA (whatever) just last year I believe. If memory serves, the third, and final, OVA came out just this December. Regardless, I'm looking forward to another yuri series. I'm hoping that I'll be able to enjoy one of the two coming at, at least. That'd double the amount of 'yuri' series I've (legitimately) enjoyed... |

Oh my freaking god, YESSSS!!!! I love this series!! It's one of the best romantic-comedy manga titles I've read, periodIt's a yuri title that can be appreciated by people who aren't fans of the genre. 2009 looks like a fantastic year, indeed.

Thanks for the info about the yuri genre... but I wonder, now, what "shoujo-ai" refers to... °_°
