I'd agree with this review. The series was a bit of a surprise in how enjoyable it was, and that's why I bought volume 1. If you can get all of the MANY time jumps and perspectives straight, then this show is great.

Just add the Philosopher's Stone, and it sounds a lot like a certain other Funimation-licensed property.
Anyway, sounds interesting. I've been meaning to give this a shot for a while. It's on my short list (which isn't so short at the moment). I've heard a lot of good things about the dub, too. I wonder if Funimation will allow Comcast put it on On Demand. |

This series was completely off my radar, but this review reminded me how interested I was in it when it first came out (I could've sworn it was in 08, but it's actually from 07). I also love the time period it's set in. Looks like this will be the next series I pick up.

Just got the artbox and finished watching it today. I normally don't collect singles, but I've been so hyped for this series that I said screw it to my budget. Accents took an episode or two to get used to, the pace and time-skipping as well, but loved it. Worth every penny I paid for it.
And the commentary on the disk, you forgot to mention our dear J. Micheal Tatum is also included. |

Nice review. Although I was planning on watching it before, you've now convinced me that I need to watch this. One small question, though:
What's Soul Eater doing in there? Brain's Base did animation production for Enma and Innocent Venus, but they only did in-between animation for Soul Eater (among many other studios). Wouldn't it be more useful to include some other anime that they did the animation for? Kamichu! is usually the first anime that comes to mind when I think of Brain's Base. |

You're right; I was apparently looking at the wrong line in their credits when I wrote that. It's already been changed to a more appropriate example. |

Yes! Baccano! finally gets it's well-deserved due via an ANN review. I'm ecstatic that FUNimation has finally brought over this undeniable gem of a series. It remains to be one of the absolute best of 2007 when it comes to fansubbed anime (second only to the magnificent Mononoke). Heck, Baccano! is one of the greatest anime ever produced in my book. It's just too confidently written and incredibly well directed to ignore. One of the most enjoyable experiences I've ever had while watching an anime. First time viewers are in for a wild ride, and that's putting it lightly.

Sorry to make a comment before reading the review, but what is that synopsis from? It contains huge spoilers for one of the main plots of Baccano! Something that you don't find out till the middle of the series. Did FUNi put that on the back of the DVD case or something?
EDIT: After having read the review, I agree with it, though still am curious as to why one of the most important connections to the overarching plot has to be spoiled in the first sentence of the synopsis. Also, I have to disagree slightly on the dub review. I agree that Isaac and Miria steal the show, but I'm not a fan of the accents used. Also, what in the world happened to Ladd's character? The Japanese voice sounds like the crazed, calm, and confident person that Ladd is, whereas the dub just has Ladd sounding really old, like pushing 40. |

Yay! Baccano! was licensed by FUNimation, and they did a great job dubbing the series save for a few trouble spots, but the overall presentation is excellent. I can't wait to buy the box set once I have the money ($10/month FTW)
@Megiddo Well, you also have to remember that the Japanese have a much larger pool of VAs due to them having a larger people-base for anime-related jobs. Its not as popular abroad in the United States. I also disagree with Ladd's voice though, it really dosen't "jibe" with his person or his actions. Is he actually 40 though? That would be fairly amusing if he is. |

Oho. I really enjoyed the Japanese cast of Baccano!, so I'm very excited for this if the dub has passed that level of quality.

Wow, the more I read about this show the better it sounds. To balance that many characters and time periods and still tell a well-crafted story in so few episodes seems like a nearly impossible feat, but any series that manages to pull it off is a must-watch in my book. Great to hear that the dub came out so well, too. This review clinches it for me, I'm buying the singles as they come along.

I just took a look a the synopsis. Yeah, that's a pretty sizable spoiler since we're supposed to be wondering what's going and feeling slightly confused during these first episodes. |

This is true. You've (or Funi) really spoiled the show to some people with the synopsis. A shame But a really excellent show, without a doubt, in my all time top 20. |
