Any anarchist who'd blow up Ghibli is one truly sick individual. So shouldn't they be checking up on Oshii? Wink

And suddenly images of South Park's imagination land with its crippled Totoro and others popped into my head.

Most riots, killings and property damage at G8 summits come from radical left-wing extremists. So it is the exact opposite end of the spectrum.

There's a fair case to be made that radical left-wing extremists caused most riots and property damage during G8 summits, but after the 2005 London bombings, the same can't be said for most killings.

I was referring to quantity not quality. Al-Qaeda has that in the bag. But unlike London, they would stick out like a sore thumb in Japan.

Although I am sure if you add up all the deaths from all the riots and hate, that break out in many cities every year these meetings take place throughout the world(regardless whether the summit is even in there own country) it would add up to more than 54 rather quickly.

The G8 summit was held in Scotland in 2005 when the bombings went of in London. In 2008 the summit is in Hokkaidō, while the Ghibli Museum is near Tokyo, hundreds of miles away. But it is good to hear that they are at least taking precautions. Better to be safe than sorry these days. Even in the perceived "safety" of Japan. *cough* Subway Gas Atacks *cough* yes I know that didn't have anything to do with G8, but it did show the world that Japan was not free of crime.

It can actually, over tightening security as a government policy can act to curb freedom and lead to popular unrest through real or perceived oppression. Not saying that this case is but there is potential for over preparation where there is little equivalent perceived threat to cause more harm than good.
