I still dont get why they made a movie . I rather wished they made a 24 or w.e episodes tv series and fully adapt the available LNs.

So it's not going to be an adaptation of the LNs, considering the new anime only character?

A lot of side stories and characters were left out of the anime from all the SOA LN. There is a lot of used material from all the LN. I wonder if the only material will be used from Sword Art Online Progressive LN?

Interesting choice to put a new character in the story. Normally they only do that with the games. Hopefully the story won't be much different from the LN or manga.

I have yet to watch the trailer (waiting for subs) but the addition of an anime-original character already worries me. On one hand, it's understandable they'd want to add some stuff since the first floor is quite short, only about a third of the first Progressive LN. Inori Minase's a good seiyuu too. On the other hand... well, it's an anime-original character. Those can be hit-or-miss.

Weird how they completely changed the design of the floor 1 boss.

I was thinking to myself "what major VA hasn't been in SAO yet?" and here comes Inori Minase. Kind of funny that she's playing a character seemingly closer to Asuna instead of Kirito.
We see Asuna looking at the SAO game, but will we get a glimpse of her brother (who the game was actually for)?
I'm kind of surprised they're throwing in a new character instead of promoting Argo. I didn't even see Argo in any of the trailer (or Agil). I guess Mito is there to explore Asuna and her reaction to SAO in a new way, but I'm not expecting her to survive by the end of the film.

I really wish they were making this a full anime series instead of a movie.

I don't know why, but this movie project sorta reminds me of the Mahouka movie. Feels like something made to gauge interest.

Considering it will take at least 3 years before A-1 begins airing Unital Ring, my question is how many movies do they on plan on releasing? Progressive adapts the first volume and there are seven volumes, there is easily enough for a series as long as Harry Potter. But I don't think A-1 has the budget for nearly that scope.
Also since Mito is a new character, I feel they are planning on making this more of an anime original adaptation rather than an adaptation. This approach was take for the Date A Bullet episodes as well.
My guess is they release something akin to a trilogy to fulfill the 3 years, adapt unital ring, then adapt progressive.

Frankly I also don't think Kawahara has enough time to deliver a steady stream of Progressive novels for them to adapt.

I feel like he doesn't have time for this series at all, tbh. It gets a new volume every 1-2 years? Between this, the main series of SAO, Accel World, and The Isolator, he just seems stretched thin.

I was really hoping they would've skipped floor 1, seeing as so much of it is a retelling, and started on Floor 2. Argo's short story, "The Reason for the Whiskers" is one of my favorites in Progressive, and people would've gotten to see how Kirito got the Martial Arts skill, too.
