Because the world just can't have enough anime dealing with children's card games.

While these newer games are a dime a dozen, Magic: The Gathering still rules.

I wonder how many of these shows are there.
I'll take a wild guess at the plot.
There is a young hero with spiky hair and the attitude of always wanting to fight. There is a sidekick is either an idot or thinks he is the best. There is also a female cast member who only wants peace or acts like a tsundeere most the time.
Not orginal in the least Bandai.

Don't forget the all-important angsty rival whos extremely skilled, but a huge jerk with a massive superiority complex. Gotta have those.

And let's not forget the antagonists who have to play said game against the protagonists instead of...oh, say, taking what they want and just killing anyone who got in their way. But then, if Pegasus had taken the Millennium Puzzle outright, Yu-Gi-Oh!'s Duelist Kingdom arc would've been a wee short.
I'm actually into the action game genre (well, Beyblade is an exception), so I'd like to see how Battle Spirits does, although nothing will ever eclipse Magic. Come to think of it, only active TCGs I can think of are Magic, Yu-Gi-Oh!, and Naruto unless I missed something.

But lets also not forget the older person who apparently is much stronger, but can't actually fight in these battles.
Oh and did I forget to mention the bad guys act like they are truly evil, but yet in reality really aren't?
ThoughRobbiekun is right, can't forget the angst ridden, super powerful, but has a tragic past he must repeat every few sentences.

Oh, and the protagonist must always be male, not to mention oblivious to any romantic signals being given off from the good-looking girl who's got a crush on him because he's really into the game.

This is why I hated anime for so many years. I would've expected this from Viz, but I always thought Bandai had a little more integrity. Well, I hope they enjoy all the money they're gonna make off of it.

Woah. Magic is still active? You mean, new cards are still being printed? I played Magic a little back in middle school. It wasn't really true Magic I guess though, cause we did mana drop and none of us really knew any of those weird rules.[/i]

You do realize this is Bandai of Japan, right? As this is not Bandai Entertainment licensing it, rather Bandai of Japan is producing this series with Sunrise (Which Bandai owns).
Considering it's a DataCarddass(that how you spell it?) advertisement, I don't think we'll see it out of Japan.
And really shows like this an Bakegyamon(or something like that, not Bakugan, although it does this to) make me sad.

They should make an anime based on traditional playing cards instead of the trading variety- basically a Japanese version of the Alice in Wonderland film without any animals.

Confirmed for Toonami the next time One Piece even so dares as attempts to get a fanbase with a decent dub.

American Michael Elliott (Magic, Duel Masters, Xiaolin Showdown card games) has been in charge of development. |
I move to make a nomination in the category of "Shouldn't you have known better?!?"

I think they wanted him to help make them considering Magic: the gatherings lasting popularity.
