Collen Clinkenbeard sounds uncharacteristically stiff as Android 16

Just another one of FUNi's unusual casting calls? (In all seriousness you might wanna fix that.) Laughing

I noticed that line too. I love how it changes the meaning of the sentence.

Actually, it would be awesome as a DVD extra if VAs swapped roles and had to ad-lib for particular scenes.

On another note, this boxset has twelve episodes, but that leaves twenty-one left, which means one of the remaining boxsets will have eleven and the other ten. Why didn't they start reducing the episode counts in earlier releases?

Is the soundtrack from the Blu-rays the same one from Z, or are they still using the Kai one? For some reason, every episode from Kai was given Kikuchi's score.

Edit:

Perhaps the most glaring problem through this run, though, is the handling of Android 18.

I wrote this in the previous shelf life forum, but I guess its the Syndrome of Non-Saiyan Characters. The same happens with the Supreme Kai in the next arc which sadly isn't part of Kai.

Nevertheless, I'm very happy with Kai.

Their is far to much complaining in this review for my taste..the only thing that truly ruins Kai for me is that Kenji Yamamoto's masterful score has been replaced with Shunsuke Kikuchi's mundane score which simply doesn't fit Kai's atmosphere whatsoever..its far to much of an distraction now when I watch Kai..Kenji Yamamoto's score was the soul of Kai now that its gone I can't enjoy Kai anymore sadly..its a real damn shame that Kai's original score was replaced..its one of my favorite scores in the last decade without a doubt.

You do know that Yamamoto's score was kicked out do to copyright infringement right? So yes the score on this blu ray is still using the Kikuchi score.

I have a problem with Kikuchi's music in Kai, too, but not for the same reason as I AM THE VAST UNIVERSE. I think Kikuchi's score is a bit better than Yamamoto's, but often the music placement is off, and they seem to only be using the same few Kikuchi tracks.

I quite like Clinkenbeard's 18. It sounds younger and cleaner than Meredith McCoy's, though she was quite good herself. And Jeremy Inman's stiff 16 voice isn't really a plus. At least he's got better delivery this time around. Chuck Huber's 17 is stronger than ever.

To be honest, I'm not even sure why they switched Android 18's VA for Kai in the first place, since McCoy still voices her (and Launch) in a few of the video games. Could McCoy not make the recording sessions?

And I'm still mad about Gohan's VA also switching.

Aw well. I probably shouldn't even care, since I just stick to DBZ and mostly avoid Kai anyway.

It was for the best. Gohan's never sounded better in English than he does now.

The new voice of Gohan is the worst fit out of all the English VAs.

I disagree. Clinkenbeard's Gohan fits perfectly, sounding age-appropriate and very human. Stephanie Naldony's Gohan was way too raspy and her delivery was awful. If Clinkenbeard's Gohan was any better, it would be Masako Nozawa's.

Recently, she was even able to make him sound older after emerging from a year of training. Clinkenbeard is a massive talent and her Gohan is one of the necessary elements that make Kai's dub good.

And the other voice actresses produced an age-appropriate voices that also sounded human(human enough for an alien mutt). They were even able to give Gohan some unigueness that further helped to bring the character to life. The new voice sounds like generic boy #2 from every show ever produced, bland.

But thats why people liked Nadolny as Gohan, she did a good job of making him sound older. Watch the Bojack film when he's around maybe 14. He actually sounds like a teen boy in that film.

Plus, she was awesome as Super Saiyan 2 Gohan. She did a good job of making Gohan sounds ruthless against Cell. So far, we have hears Clinkenbeard as Super Saiyan 2 Gohan only in the games, and many fans (me included) didn't like the performance because it doesn't sound mean enough.

Except Gohan isn't a teen until the Buu arc. He's eleven in the Cell Games. And Naldony's Gohan always sounded the same age, even when Gohan was four.

Naldony's Gohan grated on my nerves. I'm glad Clinkenbeard came in and gave him some humanity.

I agree..Colleen is fantastic as Gohan..she fits the role like a glove and is vastly better then Stephanie in the role..now granted Stephanie was never bad in the role but Colleen simply is better suited in the role as Gohan.

With gaining some humanity the voice lost all of its character.
