That's probably because the anime only matches up loosely with the manga. The Summer OVA matches up to volume 8, more or less. I'm not sure where Love Hina Again fits relative to the manga because I've never seen it, but Kanako shows up in volume 11.

If you don't care about the extra stuff in between that didn't take place in the anime, then around vol. 7 or 8.
Personally, I consider the Love Hina anime one of the worst "manga-turned-into-anime", not only did they cut a lot of stuff, but the events that were re-imagined for the anime are inferior to their manga counterparts.

I believe it left off some where in the middle of vol. 11.

Vol.9 contained lots of character development for Motoko and Shinobu, were those chapters included in the TV specials? I was quite disapponted with the anime and heard that the TV specials sucked, so I don't know which plots from the manga were covered in them.
I think it's important to check vol. 7 of the manga though; its handling of the identity of Keitaro's girl from 15 years ago was better, not to mention it put Naru in a much better light and showed a side to her that wasn't shown in the anime.

The anime's episodes are chapters of each manga i think bcuz wen i read them i was confused a couple of times but if u notice that in Vol. 2 u notice the first episode of Love Hina again... u see Keitaro's sister sleeping in his room n Naru thinks she's with Keitaro!
Well thats what i think that theyr chapters from each manga

A trait that bas continued so far with the anime adaptation of Negima. I don;t know which is worse honestly, though I am leaning towards Negima.

meh the only thing that disappointed me with the love hina anime series was the exclusion of vol. 10 which was my favourite volume. Volumes 11-13 dragged on way too much for me and vol. 14 just came off really suddenly.

Negima's worse because the anime started before they realized the manga was genre-shifting, so they tried to make a harem comedy when half of the harem was still less than 1-dimensional.
I remember liking the Love Hina anime, although it was before I read the manga and I haven't watched it since. I know I still like the way the anime introduced Shinobu, though.

The Love Hina anime was nice....but don't great or even really good. The problem is the later half of the manga was when any real serious elements were brought in. Those parts never made it into the tv series. Then they made those 3 butchered OVA's and tried to cram in all the serious content they missed and it just sucked honestly. The manga is a much better source for the series and I was fortunate eniugh to try the manga first. If I had watched the tv show first I might not have even bothered looking at the manga. The last volume before they got married was actually rather touching.

The first manga I ever bought (or read, for that matter) was volumes 13 and 14 of Love Hina, and I found that they approximately picked up where Love Hina Again left off. The way I see it, the TV series 1-25 covers roughly vols. 1-7 of the manga, the Christmas & Spring specials sort of cover 8-9, and Love Hina Again tries to cram vols. 10-12 into 3 episodes. Needless to say, the actual events in LH Again and manga vols. 10-12 are pretty different, but they send the characters on basically the same paths.
But really, the whole manga is worth reading... after getting 13 and 14 to see the end of the story, I went back and got 10-12 to see the "complete story" covered in Love Hina Again, and then wound up getting 1-9 to complete the collection.
And I actually liked some of the "Anime Original" parts of the TV series, like the RPG parody in episode 8, Kentaro and the "Mr Virtual" sequences in episode 7, and Moé the doll in episode 20. And in some ways, I thought the first Negima anime was a good adaption -- compared to Love Hina that only gives some of the story and leaves you hanging, Negima! at least puts a conclusive ending together, even though it's non-canonical. I'm actually sort of glad that Negima! cut off before the manga decided it wanted to be like Naruto & Dragonball Z.

Maan, i love manga but anime is not worth seeing, they just completely destroyed Love Hina's climate...

A conclusive ending doesn't make the rest of the series not lackluster. Most of the anime prior to the ending arc was generic harem comedy (except episode 19, which was incredible and serious) with too many one-dimensional characters and bad art.

I was in pretty much the same boat. I saw probably the first half dozen episodes, then read the entire manga, then came back to the anime a few years after that and was pretty disappointed with it....but I do agree, the introduction of Shinobu in the anime was top notch. Also, the Japanese voicecast was pretty much perfect (the American one...not so much). Overall, I vastly preferred the manga, though.
