Man, I wish we'd get Petshop of Horrors here in the states! Urban Vision's release is too hard to find these days. Alas.
Still, I think it's cool that this is happening. Russia looks to be in for some quality releases- Haruhi, Wolf's Rain, Petshop of Horrors, etc.

And yet, not as bad as here in Mexico -_-

We have had some releases (Ranma and Card Captor Sakura movies), but they don't last more than a few months before fading into the dark corner of video rentals.

AND YET THE UK & IRELAND STILL HAS NO HARUHI :/

It's not fair, someone really should release Haruhi over here, and with those lovely boxsets you Americans get, too!

I wish Reanmedia the best of luck, however! Anime smile

Things are looking up for Russia! And for a company to buy out another one in Russia is good news overall! But I think they should keep XL Media as the distributor and not do away with that name - it seems to be very popular.

Well, things are definitely looking up. The unexpected occurrence of Reanmedia in Russia is a grate news. I wish best of luck to them and i hope to see more quality releases in future.

I don't know, but I just did a google search for russian income to compare it to american. Apparently the average wage there is about 1/4 of the average income here (or 1/2 of my income, since I'm on the low end of the spectrum), at least per http://www.kommersant.com/p788940/macroeconomics_standard_of_living/
which seems a reasonably sane source (it's hard to find sources for this surprisingly, I'd thought there'd be more out there and would appreciate more references especially if more contries are included and it's updated often).

Anyhow, basically I think it's clear that you see more piracy in Russia because the costs of software/music/movies that are legitimate are not really lower than anywhere else, but their wages are a great deal lower than ours. There are lots of factors in piracy, but it's pretty much directly proportional to income. The reason it'd be even worse in Mexico than Russia is that the income there is even worse.. to get that I went here for a recent figure
http://www.mexperience.com/discover/discov_ff.htm

I used the calculator there to determine the conversion from 197 MXN to be 18.18$ per day for a mexican worker, which is only 1/4 of what I make or 1/8 of what the average US worker makes.

I do realize this doesn't entirely factor in the decreased cost of various necessities, but generally the cost of non-necessities, particularly those that are imported, aren't going to be much lower so they will have more impact on the average mexican or russian than the average american. If anyone is aware of figures that take everything into account readily available I'd appreciate the source.

Face it, Iraq will get Haruhi before we Brits ever do...
And then, we'll have to shill out at least 2.5 times the US Rrp

That, of course, says nothing of companies like MVM.

I'm glad that we've got another distributer here in Russia, though it took another company off the market. I'm not sure about nowdays, but 2 or 3 years ago licensed anime titles cost less (!!!) than most of the other DVDs with anime on them. Sounds strange, huh? Today you might buy the official release for about 10-20 USD, some cost even less.
Anyway, lots of people do buy licensed DVDs either because the quality of the video is better, or because they want to tell others that dubbling is stupid or subs are wired Laughing It's a common thing [bad dubbling] for anime titles that are aird on TV in Russian.

P.S.: Another thought on why the "Pet Shop of..." was licensed... probably because that manga has been licesed and published here as well. Rolling Eyes
