Wow an OEL licensed to japan. Is this a milestone?

This gives new hope to me as a amateur manga-ka.

Weird that it's going to be in Faust, though... not only because of the sporadic publishing schedule but also because it doesn't really mesh with the other stuff in the magazine.

Didin't "No Man's Land" from Seven Seas get picked up a while back by a Japanese publisher? Or am I mistaken?

Wow, this is pretty unreal. Congrats to Fred Gallagher! Now if only we could find a Japanese publisher for Gold Digger and Ninja High School....

American Books and movie get license by Japan all the time. Even popular comic book (x-men, silver surfer), so it's not that surprising that Megatokyo (megahit) got pick up. Just as long as your work is popular enough in the states, you'll have a good chance. I like megatokyo but the first few chapter has really bad artwork with lots of recycle art.

Wow, a reverse manga licensing. Is that a first? Even if it isn't a first, congrats to Fred all the same. I wonder if any more OEL manga will be licensed for Japan.

Also Kodansha recently held an international manga contest in which the winner will get their work publish in Japan. I believe several chinese won.

So I guess there are other ways to get your stuff license in Japan for all the wannabe mangaka.

I wonder how they plan to translate the 133tspeak.

FWIW, a Japanese edition of Princess Ai has been around for years ... not that anyone's been buying THAT one Razz

It's pretty much exactly the kind of thing Faust publishes.

Now if only they would pick up Scott Pilgrim...

Is Megatokyo really considered a megahit? I didn't think it was very big, outside its niche crowd.

Not sure if Princess Ai would could since some artists from Japan worked on it. Good going Fred! Didn't realize that his comic has been translated into so many languages. That would be freaking terrific and interesting if Megatokyo became Anime. That's like mind blowing. The original edition of Megatokyo vol. 1 had a slip cover but it wasn't near as nice as what Kodansha is going to be offering. My sister's is already ripped up pretty bad. Sad

I feel sorry that some fanboy got picked over someone with talent.

Amen to that.

Congrats to Fred, but I wish they had picked up something with a bit more substance though
