This thread is for general discussion of the Ah! My Goddess (TV, 2005 & 2006), Oh My Goddess! (OAV, 1993), and Ah! My Goddess: The Movie (2000).
Ah! My Goddess (TV) and Ah! My Goddess Flights of Fancy (TV) Genres: Comedy, Drama, Romance, Supernatural Themes: Goddesses, Gods, Magical Girlfriend Plot Summary: (1st season) Keiichi Morisato is looking forward to university life. But in reality, he has no luck in anything, and he has trouble with clubs, love, etc. The truth is that he has an unlucky star above his head. One day, Keiichi is stuck watching the dorm while his sempai are away, and has a mountain of chores to do to boot. But Keiichi is a good-natured person, and is set about doing his duties. As he is about to finish his final chore, he makes a phone call to his sempai. But the words that came through the receiver are, 'Goddess Help Line.' Shortly afterwards, a beautiful goddess named Belldandy appears in front of him from the mirror of his room. (2nd season) One year after goddess Belldandy emerged from Keiichi Morisato's mirror and promised to stay with him forever, a new threat to their happiness emerges, one that could end the contract between Belldandy and Keiichi. ----- 
Oh My Goddess! (OAV) Genres: Comedy, Drama, Magic, Romance Themes: Bishoujo, Goddesses Plot Summary: When college student Keiichi Morisato dials the wrong number while ordering for some food at his dormitory, he accidentally gets connected to the Goddess Hotline and a beautiful goddess named Belldandy appears out of a mirror in front of him. After getting kicked out of the dorm, Keiichi and Belldandy move to an old shrine and soon afterwards, Belldandy's sisters Urd and Skuld move in. ----- 
Ah! My Goddess: The Movie Genres: Adventure, Drama, Romance Themes: Goddesses, Gods Plot Summary: For centuries, a god named Celestin has been imprisoned on the moon for betraying the kingdom of Yggdrasil. Released by the fairy Morgan Le Fey, Celestin travels to Earth to reunite with his former pupil, the goddess Belldandy. Things go awry as Celestin erases Belldandy's memories of her boyfriend Keiichi and uses her as a catalyst to wreak havoc on Earth and Yggdrasil. ------------------------------------ Ah! My Goddess is the anime that I really like the most. It has a good storyline. It shows life in reality (even though there are goddess etc.) and also how life could be simple and complicated. This anime aslo has different thoughts from romance to adventure , action to comedy and many more so I highly recommend it to watch by everyone (even though some scenes were not for kids). So I could say that this anime is splendid from the OVA , The Adventures of Mini-Goddess , Ah! My Goddess The Movie and the Ah! My Goddess TV series , And I'm looking forward for the 3rd season will be made soon.(I've just seen only the TV series and I totally amazed I'm planning to buy the other francise so I could understand it more) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ (For the Comment below {rainbowcourage}) Rainbow , as like as you said It's very frustrating that they have not move on or even have physical contact. That made this Anime interesting to watch and that's why this anime truly deserves a 3rd season although it may take sometime. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ So that's all I could tell...... How about you can you something about Ah! My Goddess? Here in the ANN forums it is a courtesy to give your opinion to which one of the series you like and to give a valid and detailed reason as to why you like that particular version. Otherwise this thread like the others will get locked.

The "Ah! My Goddess Discussion Thread" that you just made was very good; you gave your opinion and shared your thoughts (although I'm not sure where it went - did you edit your post?). Edit your thread (again?) just to be like that one, and you're good to go. I'll even add it to the Index. [EDIT] Actually, that's not what I meant.  . Last time around you explained your feelings and thoughts about the series. Just talk about why you AMG, who your favorite characters are and why, etc. and you should be good to go.

As I noted in the Ah My Goddess manga thread, I think one reason I like this series is because it depicts the characters AFTER they get together rather than just the lead up to the relationship with the implication that they "live happily ever after" once they're together. I find that refreshing and interesting, altho others may disagree.
I also consider this series to be a favorite. I love the story, the character designs are well done (altho I'm not as fond of the TV series update, even though it was done to follow the changes in the manga since the OVAs were made) and as a whole I think the world is well constructed. As I noted in another forum, if you like Ah My Goddess, you might want to give Mamotte Shugogetten a try. It's practically a direct rip of the AMG story, but as it progresses it goes in its own direction and the characters have some different quirks to them. |

I definitely like the fact that it shows a relationship after they are together. It is a very frustrating series however... a part of me likes the fact that Keiichi and Belldandy are so innocent, cute and naive. The other part of me just wants them to move forward and be physically involved. I mean, they've had two seasons of spoiler[ ALMOST saying I love you, and ALMOST kissing ] I wasn't sure who would consider that a spoiler, so it was just to be safe. Jamir, you were concerned earlier about a third season. I have read (forget where) that the producers of the series would like to animate as much of the manga as possible but will not be able to pick up the project again until (earliest) 2008. I have to agree with you. Although I've enjoyed AMG, the essential stagnation of the relationship between Bell and Keiichi has gone from cute and shy to tedious and near-pathological as it's drawn out indefinitely. They're more like dorm-mates than lovers, and it just isn't interesting any more. |

I'm curious why that is such a hang up for people. Firstly, it should be noted (as I'm sure we're all aware) that Japanese society IS more reserved and less into PDA than America or other societies are. I know a very nice Japanese married couple, they're going on 20 year married and in all the time I've spent with them, I don't think I've ever seen them kiss (now granted, I don't spend a HUGE amount of time with them or "every waking second" or anything like that, but still...). That said, I know they love each other and are a great "couple".
#2, to be fair to Keiichi, they have kissed in the manga several times, and while I don't really wanna see AMG turn into some kinda porn comic, you've gotta admit that knowing that Belldandy is a goddess, that's GOTTA be kind of intimidating. I mean, even more so than the "keep your hands off my daughter" threatening dad. Granted, we have yet to MEET Belldandy's father, but I'm just saying... (Also, Keiichi's father is even worse) But frankly, to me, they ARE together, we KNOW they're together and the story is about how they live together and altho kissing may be something we could see more of, anything more than that is unnecessary IMO as it would be invasive of the reader to be in on that. (since AMG isn't "that" kind of story, if you wanna see that, go check out Futari H) |

Well being an OMG (yes I refuse to say AMG, sue me
 ) I figured I'd revive this thread with 5cc's of hope. I was wondering who here has started getting season 2, Flights of Fancy, and what they think of it compared to the first season? Anyone actually see the first season to begin with?

I own (and have watched) the entire first season, I haven't yet started buying the second season (and haven't watched it) in part because until just recently I was confused and thinking it wasn't coming out till July. But I hope to get the vol 2 box soon and start building that set.
Regarding season 1, I liked it well enough, altho I'm not fond of the shift in character designs. I TOTALLY understand and realize that it is following the manga in that regard and the anime resembles the CURRENT manga designs, but I think Fujishima's designs were better about 10 vols. back and I prefer some of the previous designs. The ONLY "downside" I had on the first season is that for a few parts of it, it's basically the THIRD iteration thru that part of the story: #1, manga, #2, OVAs, #3 TV series, so in some ways I almost wish they'd picked up from right after OVA 3 or something (since OVAs 4 & 5 are a little more of a closing "arc") but I understand why they didn't and for completeness sake I like them going through it. Overall I feel it was a worthy rendition of the story and I'm ready to go buy season 2. |
