The Yu-Gi-Oh manga is only available in one form. It's generally unedited, but there may be minor changes on it, although no one has really pointed anything out.(other than edited foul language from time to time) However, Viz, the company that releases the manga, is known for editing certain pictures they find offensive, although they probably get permission from the original creator(s) before doing so.

I agree with Ryvius213 in full, though to elaborate on something, the "getting permission from the authors" bit isn't something to be taken seriously. It's highly doubtful that the authors are fully informed as to what the changes are, and that how the changes are being told to them are getting processed through the company said authors work for, which compounds the pressure to agree to any "necessary" changes.

It's little more than a claim for legitimacy, much like elections in the Vladamir Putin run Republic of Russia; the elections only serve as a means to reinforce in the public's eye on an already predetermined event.

The only thing I know of for sure that they've edited is some strong language in later volumes (they don't start doing this until they get to the Duelist Kingdom arc) and I've heard that they edited out a line about condoms in later printings of volume 1, but my copy has that line left in-tact so I can't verify if later printings have that line omitted or not. I've also heard they edited out Jonouchi flipping his finger but I don't know how accurate that is. Can anyone confirm if it's true or not?

I don't read Yu-Gi-Oh! myself, but here is what Wikipedia has to say:

Wikipedia wrote:
The English version of the Yu-Gi-Oh! manga is released in the United States and Canada by VIZ Media in both the Shonen Jump magazine and in individual graphic novels. The original Japanese character names are kept for most of the characters (Yugi, Jonouchi, Anzu, and Honda, for instance), while the English names are used for a few characters (e.g. Maximillion Pegasus) and for the Duel Monsters cards. Published in its original right-to-left format, the manga is largely unedited, especially compared to the English anime. The translators of the English manga are (for Volumes 1-7, Duelist 1, and Millennium World) Anita Sengupta and (for Duelist! 2 and beyond) Joe Yamazaki. Some content was revised in later printings of earlier volumes, Volume 1 especially, possibly to make the "non-duelist" part of the series more appropriate for kids (e.g. swear words were removed, a reference to Lucky Strikes was removed, an enjo kōsai reference was replaced with a "nightclub" reference in the reprinting of Volume 1, and Ms. Chono's line remarking "cigarettes, lipstick, condoms?" was revised to remove "condoms").

Viz released volumes 1 through 7 of the Yu-Gi-Oh! manga under its original title. The Duelist Kingdom and Battle City arcs is released as Yu-Gi-Oh!: Duelist, while the Egypt arc is released as Yu-Gi-Oh! Millennium World. As of the January 2007 issue, the Egypt arc can still be found in Shonen Jump.

It also says that Yu-Gi-Oh! GX will use the names from the 4Kids dub. Sad

The only time I EVER enjoyed this series at all was the first few volumes. As soon as cards came in I was out faster than a fat kid in dodgeball.

Well, anybody who gives a damn about Yu-Gi-Oh! GX (i.e. already reading it in SJ) would've already known this, and it certainly was a pity.

This is rather disappointing, especially since I was considering to pick up the first 7 volumes. Guess I better start hunting for some of the older editions.
