It's truly impressive how long Falcom has managed to stay around, without ever losing their identity or alienating their fan base, all the while continuing the pump out the same style of games with the same sort of spirit and passion -- especially impressive considering they're one of the *oldest* game development studios on the planet.

Every other developer of a similar age is virtually unrecognizable today compared to what they were in the 80s. But not Falcom.

I don't know to what extent that this is thanks to Kati's influence, but I suspect his presence was no small factor. Here's hoping Falcom continues to live up to its legacy without him.

I have enjoyed watching the longplay of the first two Ys books for the Turbografx and the game itself looks good.

I don't know if I would go that far. I see plenty of people (myself included) who prefer the original Ys gameplay compared to the modern style it has now.

RIP to a legend nevertheless.

I prefer the earlier era of Trails gameplay and writing, but I nevertheless agree with Fluwm? As much as they've changed, the later entries don't feel like they've lost their identity or qualitatively transformed -- they've just kind of absorbed trends I dislike.

I don't often feel particularly grateful to corporate execs, but feel awfully thankful for what Kato founded and all it led to. A rough loss for the RPG world indeed.
