Was a long time coming but he will be missed, impossible to overstate his influence on the series (down to taking Oda to what was probably an okama bar and that being the inspiration for Bon Clay).

I think we all thought this would be a matter of time. He has not been sounding well for some years now. Still, I'm sad this is happening, but I'm sure they made the right decision.
Thank you for all the fun years, Kazui Yao.

That’s sad, I’d wished all the main voice cast could continue until the end.
Hopefully they can fit him in as a different character.

It's really sad, albeit not surprising. It was easy to hear that something was off with his voice for a while now. Thank you for being SUUUUUPER for so many years. You're a Straw Hat forever.

I hope he will continue voice acting after one piece, as long as his health is stable

Judeau being replaced by Garrod? Pretty fitting. I wish Yao all the best.

Given all the breaks that Oda's been taking these last few months I have doubts that any of the original seiyuus will be able make it towards the end.
As sad as it is I can at least respect Kazuki Yao on doing what he thinks was the right decision. Even though the writing has been on the wall he'll be missed as the voice of Franky.

My first encounter with Yao was from Dancougar. I was surprised how much he expanded his range after the initial young hot blooded giant robot pilot instead of being typecasted. It's sad to see him leave the role of Franky but especially Bon Clay, but entertainment is a rough business whether you are in front of the camera or just lending your voice. Good luck with him and I hope and enjoys life more.

As sad as it is to say, I'd argue it hasn't bee for some time. Listening to him when he started the role vs. now he sounds extremely different. You can still tell it's the same VA, but it honestly sounds like he's struggling.

For me, that role was as Shogo Yahagi from Megazone 23 Part II.

Glad I'm not the only one. He's sounded off since Wano. I'll miss him. He's one of my favorite Japanese voice actors, but he can't keep doing this. Franky is a voice that requires bombast and energy, which Yao has been struggling to provide for a while. Let him step down with grace.
It's kind of an issue with One Piece going on this long in general. Toei tried getting all star veteran voices in a lot of places way back in the early 2000s. A lot of those guys are now retired, dead, or had to step down for other reasons. Mihawk, Cobra, Roger, Whitebeard, Sengoku, and tons of other characters have had to have actors replaced who were big names in the 70s and 80s because they were never expected to stick around for One Piece's likely 30 year run. I just hope Franky is the only Straw Hat Pirate who needs to go through the replacement process (though I also hope WIT Piece uses fresh talent instead of relying on our established cast for the same reason: no guarantee these guys will stay in the game long enough to complete the thing).

Technically-speaking, Jinbe also had a replacement actor. Jinbe's original voice actor (Episodes #430-432) was the legendary Gouri Daisuke, who passed shortly after getting the role.
