It was just announced that Crunchyroll will be picking up this anime. The Japanese release date is Oct 7, so maybe that's where it will fall. The trailer looks pretty interesting. Welp, this show premiered on Amazon Prime, not Crunchyroll, with about as much advertising as you'd expect. I just thought I'd direct anybody who wants to try it that way.
I've got to say though, it didn't do much for me despite a plot that I really liked the sound of. Others mileage may vary. |

It was also very much a meh from me. A chaotic yet rather uninteresting meh. Looking at the list of anime I am going to be busy enough so unless the next episode is a lot better I have to say drop it like its hot.

Okay, I know I am in the minority, but I enjoyed the episode. I was intrigued by the trailer, bishonen harem and interesting action. The first episode immediately caught my attention with the image of the main character, Ichiyo chained in a cell or cave like Son Goku. Then the narrator tells us about Four Gods that must be found. The emblems used looked like Suzaku, Seiryu, Genbu and Byakko, the Four Gods in Fushigi Yugi, or the Phoenix, Dragon, Turtle and Tiger. Now they had my attention FY gave us bishonen, drama and an emotional roller coaster, could Haigakura harken back to 1990s anime.
Maybe…. the first episode showed an interesting world and colorful dynamics between characters, which reminded me of Ouran HS Host Club. The delightful kicker was seeing the main character, Ichiyo sing, lots of Aggretsuko vibes! I am ready to continue on this journey, especially if the various characters appearing in the Opening credits are as entertaining as FY or Saiyuki. |
