I would be super excited for this. I hope the campaign is successful! El Hazard was one of the first animes I was introduced to and I had a ton of fun with it.

Happy to see Japan finally embrace crowd funding. Japan did start online. Thank you for not abandoning.

The only thing this studio has done well over the years has been to have part of their crew come out to form the Troyca studio [Re: Creators], otherwise the studio that was one of the big ones disappeared. It is one of the most subdivided studios out there, but virtually none of it appears in the industry with any work.

I absolutely loved El Hazard: The Magnificent World. Yet I really, really did not like El Hazard 2: The Magnificent World, Alternative World, or Wanderers.
I personally think there was enough El Hazard. There are other properties from that time that I'd love to see a sequel/continuation to even more. |

That summarizes my concerns quite well. The original El-Hazard is fantastic, but the others not so much. I didn't dislike the sequels but they're weren't up to the standard of the original. The Wanderers was decent but it suffered from being a TV reboot that seemed made for a younger audience: cheaper animation, filler episodes, dumbed-down. El-Hazard 2 and Alternative world had more potential given that they were direct sequels but they just didn't caputure the magic of the original. (Honestly, that's the same sort of thing that happened with the various sequels to Tench Muyo). I hope it does well, and I'm excited to check it out, but I am not going to hold my breath. |

Never watched El Hazard, but it's always nice to see anything from pre 2000 revived.

El-Hazard....ah, one of the highlights of the "Tenchi" days, where romcoms ruled the day on the western front =03. Having watched the Alt World first, then the original OVA+OVA2(both came in a box set) then Wanderers I have to say I have mixed feelings. As was said, the original OVA was great, but got worse chronologically the more iterations it had(OVA2 > Alt > Wand, in that order).
What particularly bothered me; and other shows of its ilk, even back then, was how other girls pretty much got shafted like they didn't even exist. Tenchi(the original OVAs) at least kept him either neutral, or showed consideration for all of the girls relatively evenly. El OVA2 and the Wand made me pull my hair out back then. Heh, of course that phenomenon still happens today, but it REALLY bothered me back then. If they do succeed, I'd like Makoto to pull away from the Ifurita(sp?) stuff and be more neutral. It's always sad to see best girls get the short end of the stick =0< |

So it's El-Hazard: The Next Generation.
I agree that none of the followups lived up to the original OVA series back in the day. But at the same time, I'd love to see this sequel project get made both in the hope that they'll do better the next time around, and just to have some more El-Hazard in the world after all this time. |

Jinnai and Diva have a child together--that alone intrigues me to see this happen!
Love the original OVA, didn't care for OVA 2 (mostly just a repeat that didn't bother exploring new territory). Once you know how the 1st season ended, there really is no point to a continuation. Having said that, I liked Alternative World a lot better since it was still interesting seeing our protagonists sent to another dimension that was alien to everyone. I may be in the minority, but I do appreciate Wanderers since it still had worthwhile moments the OVA didn't (Afuraman had clearer characterization in the TV series). I wish AIC would somehow open this to western backers because I would definitely share my support, just like I wish they had done with the Pretty Sammy sequel, maybe it would've had a closer chance at success if they did. |

I'm not sure I agree here. Sure El-Hazard had a bevy of female characters but I don't think it's a particularly good example of a harem romcom from that era. With Tenchi Muyo, for example, most of the characters were potential targets for Tenchi's affection. El-Hazard was a bit different. The majority of the characters had obvious romantic pairings. About the only character that could compete for Makoto was spoiler[Shayla-Shayla, but that was always characterized as a fairly lighthearted rivalry, and perhaps Afura Mann, though she appeared to have no interest in anyone. ] And nevermind the fact that the show opens with a flashback showing exactly who Makoto ends up with.... |

What a strange time to bring El Hazard back. It feels like something from two generations ago.
Personally, I was kinda hoping AIC can focus on their new Megazone projects first. But seeing El Hazard again isn't bad I guess. I'm getting strong Ai Tenchi Muyo vibes from reading the concept alone. |

I wonder if it has anything to do with the current popularity of "alternate world" "/isekai shows right now? I remember reading a column here about that being a recent trend and the first thing that popped into my mind was recent? That sounds odd, El-Hazard did that 2 decades ago! |

Other than perhaps having more accountability issues for the sites, why doesn't AIC use Kickstarter or IndieGogo for this project?
