I'm really bummed that people aren't watching this show. It's rather charming despite its rough production values.

Maybe they are but lack things to say about it? I watch almost everything that comes out that I can stream on Funi/VRV/Prime/Hulu...(I currently don't have HiDive because of lack of content, but will eventually watch a month to catch the horror that is Redo of Healer just because it's bothering me to see others talk about it and have no idea what it is personally...maybe sooner than later to appease my awful curiosity.)
I am watching this, but it's pretty middling to fair in my eyes. I don't look forward to watching it, but neither do I dread it, which I do feel that way about some, but still watch because I have a sickness or something. ![]() ![]() |

I just like that it's a fun little horror comedy anime about people suffering mysterious illnesses and the commentary that is attached to them is all. I like Ramune as a lead, though the new batch of characters we are introduced to in the third episode are a bit better than the two we get stuck with.
Granted, the animation quality isn't the best, but I think the writing is strong enough to carry it. |

Indeed more interesting, the leads mostly feel like two totally familiar characters we have seen in a bunch of other things, and we are entering the story several episodes in without an introduction. Which kind of reminds me of an anime from several years ago called Cuticle Tantei Inaba, although that show got by with much more wacky and interesting characters in general. I think that Ramune actually comes off a bit obnoxious, and the assistant a bit passive to even understand what his point is. |

Somehow I overlooked this when I came to find a thread for it, so I'm glad I looked again! I'm really enjoying this series a lot. It really grows on you. My favorite was the popcorn head kid. It just broke my heart when he sent his balloons up. I kinda felt like the father's motive was a cop-out though. But the kid was such a sweetheart, and helped bring Kuro out of his shell a bit.
Speaking of Kuro, it's nice to get some backstory on him. Did we know he had a big family? I think I had it in my head that he was adopted by Ramune or something. But his "I see mushi" gig is catnip for me in any story. It's why I love Natsume so much and that's the hook that got me to watch XXXHolic until I couldn't find all the pieces to keep up with the storyline/crossovers anymore. So I can't wait til next week's ep. |

What a nice finale! I can't remember the last time I saw a series end on such a satisfying note, still with room for more if they want (and I'd be there for it), but perfectly fine as is. There was a little bit of drama to keep things interesting, but it didn't feel like it was racing to the finish line to tie up all the major loose ends while carefully baiting hooks for another season. Instead it was a pleasant stroll through the emotional scenery of the series, leaving me feeling that everything was as it should be at the end. And considering all the food-centric ailments and content, a picnic was just the perfect way to sign it off.

I rated this show Very Good. I had zero expectations for it when I first started watching and ended up being very pleasantly surprised. As Gina says, this season was a complete package unto itself but if they wanna make more that's more than fine with me.

Episode 12 (finale)
I was kind of lukewarm to the series in general. I kind of think that it was a mistake to put Kuro's stuff at the end, even if it was less of an introduction to the series in general, it would have been an introduction to the character. I was thinking that the mentor character would turn out to be an antagonist or something, but at most was what was in the last episode of him apparently telling Ramune to not get so attached to patients. I think the characters were mostly not very interesting, with exception to the art guy, but mostly because he felt like a human male version of Clara Valac. My rating is So-so (5/10), it generally did not really catch my attention. |

I ended up liking this show more the more it went along. I particularly liked the last few getting to hear Kuro's backstory and Dr. Ramune's trying to figure out what kind of relationship to have with his patients.
The stories got stronger and better as the show went along. I wasn't convinced this was worth much from Condiment tears and Chikuwa Penis stories...the latter half starting with popcorn head started appealing a bit more. Honestly I wouldn't be sad if there was another season. I'd give it a decent |
