Streaming =/= Physical Release
Again, this is why I buy Physical releases and use Streaming only as a sampling tool.

No. Media Blasters rights for that expired years ago, it's now a Aniplex title.

No. Media Blasters rights for that expired years ago, it's now a Aniplex title. |

Yep... No matter how much streaming sites there are out there. There is no garuntee they will be found once there all gone..at least with a physical release you would at least have a permanent source to watch it..if the streaming service is gone than the data is gone forever and you won't be able to see it anymore.
Never underestimate the importance of a good old Physical release copy be it a blu ray, dvd, VHS or a book...it is always nice to have something you can forever have.

Agreed. It's also why I hope the day of all-digital gaming never becomes a reality.

Pretty much on the same boat here. Outside of subscription based games I refuse to buy or rely on digital copies of anything. With disks I will enjoy them for possibly decades until Data Rot makes them unreadable. Online / Digital media access can be easily taken away at any time for any purpose and if the licensor doesn't want to pay for the rights to the show anymore POOF it goes.. That is not a business model I'd support.

BY the way..it can also be used as prolonging tool as well. meaning that as long as the stream site exists..you won't have to use your psychical media until the streaming service is removed, which would allow to prolong you physical release to remain preserved much longer.

Except in this case the company in question seems to be releasing a lot on DVD-R, a medium with questionable reliability.

Fair point, but I'm not going to lose any sleep over backing up something I legally bought, as opposed to pirating.

True, streaming is not the same as a physical release. But wouldn't the rights to streaming be part of the same contract to produce the physical release? If that is the case then the rights to produce are expiring as well - or so I would think. Perhaps someone can answer this question for me?

Generally, the home video and streaming rights are treated separately where anime is concerned, but a package in not unheard of. It's why companies, like Funimation, will announce the acquisition of home video rights to shows that were already streaming on their site. It also works out for the companies here to acquire streaming rights separately to find out if a physical release is worth the financial undertaking.
In this case, the streaming rights might be expiring, but it looks like a few other companies have titles expiring, too. That makes me think that maybe the deal they had with Hulu to provide streaming service was no longer worth it.

Can be, but kind of irrelevant to his point. When the physical media rights expire, no one comes to repossess your physical copy. It can be a reason to buy them up before they go out of print, though.
