Not true. Konami sent them on vacation after the completion of MGS V. This is normal in game development.

So, it's true. Kojima is only on vacation... if there'll be a place for him to come back to after vacation, that's another story.

Why are people even surprised? Once Kojima got fired, all of this was inevitable.

It was inevitable and predictable.
Bye bye KPLA studio.

Honestly, these things aren't even a surprise anymore. Konami's gone so far down the rabbit hole and we know where this ends up.
Unlike Sega, though, I don't think there's any chance of saving the Konami WE love. They're going into a hated market, and whether they succeed or not doesn't matter. To the gaming community, they're dead already.

I guess Kojima won't be taking a holiday in Los Angeles, then.

To be honest with you, I am not even so sure Sega is savable. Sega-Sammy gets most of its profit nowadays from Panchiko, and Panchiko is declining due to lower customer number and tougher government regulations (the decline is actually a good thing).
The folks in Konami really thinks their future is in mobile gaming, but I am far from convinced about that. Mobile games have high customer attrition rates, and successful games (the good ones do earn a lot of money) are out of many many failed releases. (Oh yes, I have no idea why Activision would buy King as well...) Really, if I am company boss, I wouldn't want my company future earning to rely on dice rolling with the release of a lot of products. I would rather keep bets on smaller number of products that are looked after and polished well.

Now Konami needs to leave the gaming industry for good, as they've done too much damage to their fanbase.

I don't know why they think the fans will believe any of this. The writing has been on the wall for awhile.

Agreed, but what about their IPs? People will obviously make the connection.

Konami has changed. It's no longer about Metal Gears, Castlevanias, or Silent Hills. It's an endless series of pachinko, played by businessmen and machines. Konami, and its consumption of its own intellectual property, has become a well-oiled machine. Konami has changed. ID tagged salarymen carry ID tagged spreadsheets, use ID tagged presentations. Quarterly earnings reports enhance and regulate their abilities. Game control. Information control. Marketplace control. Pachinko control. Everything is monitored, and kept under control. Konami has changed. The age of fun games has become the age of pachinko. All in the name of averting profit loss from games that don't make as much money. And he who controls the profits, controls the company. Konami has changed. When the company is under total control, pachinko... becomes routine.

Another big thing that Konami's execs are betting on is the proposed gambling bill. Essentially the higher-ups think they can cash in on the idea of a gambling market early and have it become a cash cow (especially due to the 2020 Olympics). However, the bill has gone through numerous delays in the Diet and doesn't have the full support of the government. There are also the issues of the fact that it would still take YEARS for any casinos to be made and at how Japan could attract people who would probably just go to other countries that are more famous for casinos. All in all, the guys at Konami are LITERALLY gambling with their company's future.
