Damn, I am so hyped to see this. The new key visual looks great as well.
1 hour huh? Well, it's longer than F/Z's premiere.

"Episode zero, "Prologue," will premiere on October 4, and will focus on Rin Tohsaka and her servant Saber."
I think it should be "Rin Tohsaka and her servant Archer."

So it will be called "Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works" and not just Fate/stay night?

Even more pretentious and ultimately useless infodumps than in F/Z's beginning? Nice to hear that the pacing issues of the franchise have not changed...

Yes, because the new anime will adapt the Unlimited Blade Works route of the original visual novel. The original Fate/stay night anime loosely adapted the visual novel's Fate route and with elements from UBW and Heavens Feel.

Any thoughts on the premiere? Was it actually one full hour or more-so 45 minutes like the first episode of Fate/Zero? Did you feel like episode one did a good job at making the viewer want to watch more?

Also, regarding episode 0, did it feature the animation from the various previews we've seen so far?

As in where that animation trailer exclusive? The prologue features all the Rin bits that were shown in the previews before she meets Shirou and the Archer-Lancer fight. That's what is going to be in the Ep. 0.

It was a full hour, according to Ayako Kawasumi. I was actually going to write a review later. ^^
But the animation was amazing. Really fluid and well done. The music is also really breath-taking, so many beautiful string instruments that drag the viewer into the world.
One little slip up: When Shiro was stabbed, he was bleeding all over the floor. However, when he woke up in the same place, all the blood was gone off the floor! However, apparently, this was in the original visual novel, according to my friend. Weird. Rin the janitor!
Unfortunately, for some of the walking background characters, they used CG. So it looks a bit out of place.
I'm really glad this is a two-part prologue, because me and my friend were really confused as to why Rin and Archer barely showed up! Hahaha. Also, it felt like a SUPER long prologue. It's very loyal to the visual novel. VERY loyal. They did not skip a single scene, which made it so long.
Only three more weeks till this episode premieres on TV. ^^ Hope you guys can see it soon! I'll write up a review on my personal blog later.

So is this going to be standalone despite the fact that they're skipping Fate? Is the purpose of the two 1 hour episodes to fill in the people who haven't read the VN or just to be more faithful to the VN?

Pretentious is such a cool buzzword isn't it? It's also nice to see that the biggest detractors of Fate/Zero are still completely ignorant to the franchise as a whole.
If you thought the first episode of Fate/Zero was 'completely useless' then I doubt you paid too much attention to the show. I'm kind of glad they got all the exposition out of the way right from the start because it meant the show could stay focused on its own story and characters rather than being bogged down by that exposition for the rest of the show (Which would have probably caused actual pacing problems) or ignore it completely and isolate people new to the franchise.

Yes. Episode 0 is told from Rin's perspectives. All the content in the commercials for Rin and Archer were not in episode one.

"I summon you from the circle of control, protector of balance!"
Well with a summoning incantation like that, even if that gemstone didn't end up linked to someone specific you can hardly blame the Grail for summoning a Counter Guardian instead of a normal Saber-class heroic spirit like you wanted now can you?

I'll admit I thought that even though Fate/zero was awesome, that first episode was so dense. At the same time, I kind of like the idea of shows starting out with a one-hour (or-so) episode and then going to the half-hour(ish) timeslot. Ideally it would give more breathing room for the initial episodes of series not to be so rushed, but I don't know, fate's kind of weird in that it just seems to have some slow beginnings regardless.
That being said, had the world building not been established within that first episode of Zero, we would not have gotten to the very end of the episode where I was thinking, "hey, now I remember why this thing can be so cool".
