slowly getting to the point where ALL manga involving anything gay at all is shrinkwrapped. soon they'll come wrapped in opaque paper.

I'd rather they shrinkwrapped than censored.

Uh, I sort of felt the title story was the better of the volume. But, then I didn't like the book at all. I've read Doushitemo Furetakunai and love Saezuru so I thought maybe I was just in a bad mood or something the first time. I re-read it a month or so ago though and I still had the feeling "I don't want to read this". For some reason it reminded me I dislike 95% of BL. But, I wish I could figure out why it just wasn't working for me. Usually I can point to pretty specific things.

Quote:
Hozumi and Karashima's relationship is based mostly on lust, and it suffers from the lack of explicit artwork, particularly in the mini-chapter at the book's end – somehow a frontal shot of a man answering his door naked is less of a shock when he has no genitals.

Well, I suppose that criticism could be directed a few ways. Either at Japanese authorities and/or the publishers who are afraid of them. Or Yoneda for not figuring out/executing a clever enough bokashi (I believe that's the word?) to cover him up. I don't know. I was used to a lot of censorship and then got used to not so much. Sad

I was wondering the other day if Americans were loosing up a little actually. I was in a bookstore for the first time in a long time and decided to browse the manga section. I was surprised that quite a few titles I flipped through had various nudity (more detailed in some cases) even full body some sexual situations and no shrinkwrap. One had same-sex relationships too. I thought maybe someone had just torn off the wrappings so I was looking for extra copies or other titles. Only one I remember being wrapped was Happy Marriage?! vol. 4, and I was expecting that. So it just made me wonder about the standards publishers have these days.

^ This.

Way to troll the Sega marks, ANN.

Wonder if Christian Weston Chandler knows about this. I'm sure he's got a smartphone so he can keep in touch with the outside world since his house burned down.

Agree with Rebecca, though I do like the first couple quite a bit. This is definetely one of my favorite titles released by SuBLime thus far. I didn't realize that it was also going to include the mechanic story too so that was a bonus! Hope they get more of her work!

As for the plastic wrap bit, NightS had enough explicit content to warrant it even if it wasnt very, er, detailed. Not all BL sold in stores are shrinkwrapped but at least one sex scene even if not too explicit guarantees shrinkwrap. (Unless you have a rip-off-plastic-person at your local bookstore then no worries about graphic content being shrinkwrapped).

I agree, though i didn't exactly hate the rest of the book. For me Yoneda's strength lies in creating non-cheesy stories (preferably about Yakuza Wink ) which aren't completely formulistic and predictable (like so much BL manga, sadly...) like Saezuru or the first story in this one.

It's the author trolling, not us. I wonder if she knew...? Smile

I wish that indicated loosening up, but sadly, if my local BAM is any indication, that's just a sign that people have been reading in the store and unwrapped the books themselves. I've seen the same titles shrinkwrapped at the comic shop or as review copies that have been unwrapped on the shelves...although to be honest, my big problem with that is less "Oh no, save the innocent eyes!" and more "I am NOT paying full price for a book someone has clearly already read."

RE: The first couple in the book
I guess I'm just a cheesy romance kind of reader - I didn't feel that they had much of an emotional connection. Clearly that was just me, though. Laughing

Eh... so it's not that good?
Huaa I like it so much tho Embarassed
First story IMHO cool
Second is, IMHO too overused for school-life themed BL, but still executed well
Last is my favourite tho... dunno why it really got me Embarassed

Just a reminder to the author of this review and anyone else who continues to use the term 'yaoi' -- you don't mean that. You mean BL. It's right there in SuBLime's own name Razz

Yaoi is for fictional, noncanon stuff -- so you enjoy yaoi doujinshi pairing up your favorite men from an otherwise non-BL show.

But you read BL manga and watch BL anime.
