I didn't even know it had NFC tech. That's crazy stuff.
So Japanese company head takes 50% Pay cut when they do poor, J.P Morgan CEO 74% RAISE when his company does poor. Best of luck to Nintendo...they still make the most FUN games. I dont care what anyone else...Skyward Sword was the most fun I've had in gaming in over a decade...even 2 years later

This appears to be what would have been expected to happen in response to the failure of the WII U to sell in the market. Not quite a doubling down, but a continued push of the console in combination with a side-bet on smart phone apps.
Is it enough? Well it is a bet. I think it is not bold enough and will not stave off an inevitable move to a more SEGA like model for Nintendo.
Kudos to the managers at Nintendo for being willing to take cuts in salary, though that will not materially impact the business. It is a good symbol that, yes, they do care what happens.

This is a calculated risk, but if they go, they go down swinging.
Still, good on N for having fiscal responsibility

The Wii U will be able to emulate DS games.
My 3DS can already do this, but the world never suffered for having another way to play Knights in the Nightmare.

More companies should follow Nintendo and cut half of the CEO's salary instead of laying off workers.

What, this old fart belives a pay cut for a few months suffice? He should resign and let new blood with new vision take care of the company.

Thing is so-called "new blood" tend NOT to actually be as creative or as competent as people with experience. They mostly just make bad decisions

It's a financial briefing. They wouldn't have news like this during a financial briefing.

they should also work on their advertising. seriously, the reason people think it's a wii accessory and 3rd party developers won't make games for it is because they don't tell anyone about the console or what it can do
