![]() Hamatora (TV) Genres: action, comedy, drama, mystery, supernatural Themes: detectives, game, superpowers Plot Summary: "Minimum" - a special inborn power found in a limited number of human beings, known as "minimum holders." In Yokohama, the detective team Hamatora, formed by two minimum holders named Nice and Murasaki, comes across information connected to a serial killer being pursued by their old friend Art. It turns out all the victims are minimum holders like them. Unwillingly at first, the two detectives become involved in the investigation. ---------------------------------- Episode 1: Minimum holders? Weird term. The first episode reminds me of K a bit with the way it presented itself involving a girl getting caught in the middle of mayhem. There were some supernatural powers shown but I'm expecting more later on beyond just the super strength and electricity. Animations is alright I guess and the character designs of course reminds me of Blood Lad. On technical terms, I liked the ED song with the cute backgrounds. There's also an antagonist introduced already too I think that is going after these guys. |

I can't say I really enjoyed this opening episode too much. I guess the set up does remind me a bit of K (with the girl in the middle of trouble, only if I remember it was a boy getting involved in trouble), but this series doesn't really have the nice animation, music, or just whatever it was that K had that hooked me into it. Also, the 'twist' in this episode was pretty easy to figure out, and the ending when they found out what was in that safe was even more annoying. spoiler[Really? A bunch of porno mags? So freaking dumb. It wasn't even funny, it was just plain stupid. ] The rest of the humor fell flat on me too, though I guess that stupid 'Oh, Columbus' line made me smirk.
I'm not a fan of the designs too much, and that horrid coloring they did when they used their super powers was annoying as all hell. None of the characters really stuck out to me as interesting either. As I don't have a lot of time for series during school, and since this one doesn't really have anything that redeeming in the first episode I am probably going to pass on this series, unless I hear about something interesting happening later on in the show I guess. |

The animation looks interesting. Character appearances are to my liking. There is too much jumping from frame to frame. It's annoying and also confusing at times. The case itself was really good and very interesting. Impressive. Think I'm gonna watch this one! |

The basic setup is a retread of The Getbackers. It will be interesting to see where they take this.

Are those supposed to be shadows, or do people's skin colors really change freely in Ham Tiger?

I'll give it another episode but a show like this requires 2 things for me to like it
-Interesting and detailed powers that smart characters manage to use in really innovative ways. -Really good mysteries. It has neither. The mystery was obvious and kind of stupid with a bunch of forced events needed to make it work, the powers didn't show any signs of being cooler than any other anime and the effect when the powers are used is annoying, And don't get me started on that goddamn freakin' safe! Actually, I think I'd find the humour in this super annoying based on that and the horrible timing of the maid's joke. Seriously the best part of the episode was the cute girl they lie to and mess with in the bar (I forget her name. The one with the steak and milk) and the CG tiger mascot doing the Junk Boy dance from Maze in Megaburst Space. I'll give it 1 more episode but the next episode will need to be bloody AMAZING |

Hey guys at least the safe wasn't empty with just a spider. Now that was a huge disappointment.
This was like Durarara and K had a baby. The characters seemed nice. Looks like poor Ayase becomes a prostitute lol. Although I didn't like coloring during the fighting scenes. |

This looks like it could be interesting, but the comedy dealing with the episode's case was just bad.

The coloring in this show is horrible! Everything else was okay. I liked the humor (the guy freaking out over his late Dad's sex life was quite funny, the old Downton Abbey maid was cute, although her schoolgirl outfit joke fell flat), and the characters could be fun with a little development. The powers and fight scenes were so generic, though. And what was up with spoiler[Dr. Eyepatch's arms? Are they automail?].
Don't know if I want to watch much more of this one, but I definitely liked it more than I thought I would. |

This strikes me as a show just bland enough to not be irritating. That's not exactly high praise, but it don't feel like this one is trying to be something it isn't, which makes it easier to digest.
The humor was good, the characters were generic, and the action could not possibly be more cliched. I'll stick around with this one, only by default. Not a lot of good stuff this season. You know, I'd like to see a show where spoiler[when the weak villain in episode one makes his obligatory "you're just like/similar to me, we should be comrades/partners" speech that every episode 1 bad guy ever says, the hero responds with "you know what? That sounds cool, let's do that!" and completely trolls the audience by switching sides. Would it be stupid? Yes. Would it be enjoyable enough for me to actually remember it? Absolutely. I doubt I'll even remember the title of this show in a few months, let alone the plot.] Last edited by Bugnin on Wed Jan 08, 2014 9:35 am; edited 1 time in total |

Episode 1
Great! A show with a bunch of bishies, some artwork is annoyingly bright, a detective team that looks use tired old tricks generic characters, and random non Japanese writing to look different. I am going to hate this. But strangely I actually enjoyed the episode, weird as it felt like it had so much in common with shows like K, Arcana Famiglia and Karnival that get on my nerves straight away. I actually liked the characters somewhat, although I am not entirely sure why I did. There might also be that despite this show being aimed at a female audience with putting up guys that girls can like, there actually were two girls, and I don't think either one were quite the blank slate of an insert character that all of the guys like for some reason. Although the girls don't seem to be action, they had some part that felt like they were actual characters, one has a bit of a cat thing going and seems to be a manager of sorts annoyed they weren't listening, and other is the quiet type somewhat naïve and likes food. I talked about them because hey they interested me. I did find some more annoyances though. Like what was up with the doctor's arms, probably being more medical with his ability did he need mechanical arms? piecing together that all three were connected was way too easy for the audience that it just felt like it was treating the audience as stupid to have it explained. Some exposition by the police officer especially felt inorganic. It is a little strange that I actually found humour in things like the old doing their spoiler[normal business during a robbery], disgusting spoiler[food habits], the reveal spoiler[of porn] (even if stupid). And I thought the plot line of spoiler[older guy having relationships with college girls (younger than his son)] to be rather interesting to put into an anime I was pretty sure was targeting young adult women, the scene distracted me with the spoiler[attractive body]. I usually have dislike for these type of shows, and there is a good chance I will drop it, but I might actually watch this. I feel like it is trying to play both fields, getting in the girls with male cast, and the getting the guys with the female cast. Having the sort of action you expect from bishies, but then showing a spoiler[naked women]. Whether they continue to try things, or whether it could even be successful is to be seen. |

spoiler[An interesting new case. It was fun watching them infiltrate a school. Didn't think I'd see a classic bullying case. Those seem to be popping up in the newer anime series lately. Guess it's a pretty serious problem in Japan since they're introducing it into anime. Anyway, I'm glad the case wasn't as simple as it seemed at first. Hamatora always seem to stumble at serious cases disguised as simple. Another great episode!] |

Lol what a joke, the bully only did it because others were doing it and he still thought he could be a respected person in society. That is some twisted logic.

What's with those spoiler[brains in the jar] at the end there? I bet this will be featured as a major case later on.

They talked about it in the episode. spoiler[The serial killer is only killing Minium Users. As we learned this episode someone is making fake Minimum Users (the super strong guy and the guy from this one). The only way to make a Minimum User is to transplant a natural Minimum Users brain.]
