I may have to pick this up, and adding on to the ending is probably a good thing. I really hated the ending in the film, it was the worst part of an otherwise near-perfect anime. Was too open ended, anti-climatic, and almost cliffhanger-ish. That's just my two-cents though, I know many people who enjoyed the ending.

The reviewer was right on.

While not being able to match the drama of the OAV (drama which was primarily generated through music, acting, and battle suspense; thus, it is hard to duplicate on paper, obviously), the story is still heart-felt and touching. The extra characters and lack of battles allows for more exposition and a wider range of emotions and desires than presented in the OAV. Also, I think the addition to the ending was appropriate for the feel of the manga (while the ending of the OAV was appropriate for its own feel; even though the novel's ending is more complete and effusive than either of these two.)

Taken alone, I think it is a solid story with good characters and a touching love story.

Taken in tandem with the OAV, I think it adds depth and realism and only paints a more beautiful portrait than either taken alone.

All of the above, IMHO.

Voices of a Distant Star (japanese vers) has beautiful cover art...

...so It's kind of sad how the cover art gets nerfed when it reaches an American audience ... VIZ/Tokyopop just love to stick logos everywhere... and the resizing of images... man, it's hideous... Death Note Also comes to mind...

Also, where are the fricken slip covers? seriously, all the manga I bought in Europe had slip covers.

they could have easily left the title alone...

You're calling this hideous by comparison?

Get real. The American cover is far less cluttered with print than the Japanese cover, and complaining about the resizing is just being extraordinarily picky. It's good cover art either way, but I prefer the American version.
