I always wondered what japan thought of African Americans. I was wondering this because I just watched cowboy bebop: Mushroom Samba.

it's a parody of the exploitation films of the 70s, it's the only way it could've been done. i happen to be african american, and i personally wasn't offended by it.

I can't speak for all Japanese people, but many Japanese people (at least the younger ones) think that African Americans are "cool." I guess the image comes mostly from the music scene and sports. Many Japanese singers are trying to emulate African American fashion and sing rap and R&B.
