Not bad for a show that in terms of US perception, has been through a very rough time.

Wow, not half bad, considering that the block had some pretty subpar ratings this week (Bleach normally gets 1.4 million). Then again, Bleach being a filler episode may have played a part in that.

Again, Bleach, the block's anchor show, was a filler episode this past Saturday. The lower-than-normal ratings are to be expected. |

But to be fair, THIS didn't happen last week:
Saturday night’s Toonami block also scored success: new episodes of One Piece (1 a.m.) and Soul Eater (1:30 a.m.) ranked #1 in their respective timeslots among all targeted young adults and men, Bleach (12 a.m.) ranked #1 in its timeslot among adults 18-34 and men 18-24 & 18-34, and Naruto (12:30 a.m.) ranked #1 in its timeslot among adults and men 18-24 & 18-34. All new episodes within the anime block earned impressive double-digit growth across adults 18-34 & 18-49 and all targeted men – ranging between 15% and 348% – vs. the same time period last year. http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/2013/05/21/weekly-ratings-notes-for-adult-swim-cartoon-network-tbs-tnt-trutv-nba-playoffs-men-at-work-your-pretty-face-is-going-to-hell-south-beach-tow-more/183594/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+Tvbythenumbers+%28TVbytheNumbers%29 It's been a LOOOONG time since Toonami's first 2 hours swept the boards at #1 in 18-34 among ad-supported cable! |

Gotta wonder what the dropoff from last week is all about, but I'm glad that OP had a relatively successful premiere. This coming weekend's ratings will probably drop due to Memorial Day, and the weeks that follow will begin summer vacation for some of the high school and college going target audience...it'll be interesting to see what that does to the numbers.

Cowboy Bebop with the lowest amount of views shows it might be time to finally retire it.

I would have loved to tune in and help, as I really love One Piece and think it deserves a chance to clear its name after the 4kids screw-up, but I cut my cable years ago and have no intention of signing back up.
Well, that and I never had a Nielsen box anyway, so not like my views ever counted. |

Yeah, they should go back to airing premiere episodes at 4:30am instead! Code Geass gave Adult Swim #1 ratings at that time! |

One Piece and Soul Eater beat Bleach in the ratings. YES!!!!
I had thought that One Piece would do a million. Well 995,000 is pretty close. Hurray for Toonami. And I agree with RyanSaotome that Cowboy Bebop needs a long break. Maybe we can get some Gurren Lagann in that spot. |

As much as I don't care for One Piece, it's fame is good to get new anime fans and hopefully results in more (good) anime getting licensed in the long run.
Hey Toonami, bring back Gundam Wing!! Last edited by TopGunman on Tue May 21, 2013 3:13 pm; edited 1 time in total |

Is it really necessary to say that this is the Funimation dub? Toonami had been airing the Funimation dub even back in 2008.

Thats better than doing constant reruns over and over again of the same show. Add some variety! |

You seriously underestimate the name-dropping power that Bebop has over casual anime fans. Adding some series that has a Japanese name would not hold the same strength. |
