One of the few informative, objectionable reviews of the Saikano manga I've read. While I haven't caught up to the current volume yet, most of the main points of this review ring true, particuarly in pointing out how one of the series main strengths (the drama) is sometimes laid on too heavy. It's one of the better things coming out in English right now, and this review does a good job in pointing that out.

Read this volume in Taiwan. Yes it is the last volume. And no, I didn't enjoy it as much as the first few volumes. It seems as if the manga-ka lost track of whatever he wanted to say. And the sex scenes in the end doesn't help much.

Huh?! The original Japanese release has seven volumes; so do English, French, and Taiwanese releases.

Noticed a little type of in the artical - should this:
Quote:
As the war rages on, Chise finds herself fed up with being the ultimate weapon and impores Chise to run away with her where nobody can find them.

read like this:
Quote:
As the war rages on, Chise finds herself fed up with being the ultimate weapon and impores Shuji to run away with her where nobody can find them.

Anyway, with that said, it is a very touching manga - hard to take in at times - but touching none the less.

This is one of my favourite mangas right now although I have to agree with the reviewer about the creator making too much emotional trauma for the reader at times.

I thought it was seven volumes also. Maybe they compressed them into six? These mangas were pretty thick after all.

Definitely not the Taiwanese version read by Maceart; you can click the link in my previous post to verify, plus I've read it personally.

SaiKano is much thicker than average manga per tankoubon (normal: 180-200 pages; SaiKano vol. 7: 320+ pages; slight difference between different language versions). Compressing it from seven to six volumes would only make it even thicker.

I do not know if some of you realize this, but there is still one more volume to go. The reviewer even says penultima. Good review by the way. There is not ever enough warnings (or even examples) for this novel. To tell you the truth I stopped this novel at volume four (I actually bought volume 5 and returned it). The fact of the matteris that it got a little too creepy for me. Granted, I thought I would love this series because of it's depression and angst, but the whole spoiler[issue with the girl who had a thing for Shuji. I mean was her down there parts blown off?] sex thing like one of you mentioned just became to much. I did want to see how it ends though and this much anticipated spoiler[sex scene between Shuji and Chise ], but I do not think I will buy another volume. So unless someone want to spoil me Wink (beieve it or not this was the first series I actually have not been spoiled in the tinest bit), or I find an open copy at the bookstore (like I sometimes do). I won't be reading it.

How tame are the horizontal polka scenes (Urkel called sex that)? I was flipping through one, and Chise was licking Shuji's nipple. How graphic are these scenes?
