Major Edit: It doesn't really matter now, but I'm rewriting this because it comes off as extremely idiotic and weird. I'll rephrase everything.
Almost all anime has sad concepts in them, but how many of those concepts have brought you to tears?
We all get attatched to particular characters, and that's when I found myself tearing up during a shounen anime (Naruto) when the lovable Haku kicked the bucket. It was so drawn out, and the music didn't really help either.
Haku was one of my many Naruto favourites. Then I switched over to Gantz, and the only character I felt attatched to was the first one to die. I was completely crushed, and the way it was done just made the viewer feel sympathy whether they liked the character or not. I did. A lot.
Crying of happiness has only happened once during anime watching, and that, again, has been during Naruto. Of course, it was only a little bit of tearing up, but nonetheless...
It's kind of stupid, really, but it was seeing the latest opening theme. All of the characters (almost) uniting as one, with almost a nostalgic feel to the music...Of course, when the theme song ended, everything kind of went down hill from there with the fillers...Which, come to think of it, probably make a bunch of fans cry daily.
Grave of the Fireflies is the last I'll mention. It was when the body was being burned. I didn't cry when she actually died. The image that started the tears was of her with some kind of hat-imitation over her head, as she was dressed up as a soldier, giving a determined salute. It was just a 'wow' factor.
How about all of you? Share your stories of tears and angst!
(There. new and improved. )

I actually cried during an episode of InuYasha. Just because something in the episode reminded me of something that was happening to me. It was a remote connection but still similar enough to get to me.
And my stepdad cried at the end of Vampire Hunter D Bloodlusts. I don't know why, he just did. It was really touching.

Air (either the TV series or the movie).
Every time Aozora was played with Misuzu running up to Haruko (in the movie it was her and Yukito) on the beach, I nearly burst out in tears; that moment is where Misuzu died.

Come to think of it, there was also a part of the Inu-Yasha manga that really got to me (Vol. 18, where Inu-Yasha has to choose between Kikyo and Kagome... though it ends up being a false climax anyway) as well as the mangas for Naruto, Fruits Basket, and Rave Master. Yeah, Rave Master. (When Sieg Hart sets out to kill Elie, and also when Haru's father dies shortly after being reunited with his son.).

oh jeez. I consider myself a guy, and guys arent supposed to cry often. Im not saying i dont cry, but movies and tv shows hardly ever do it for me, but for some reason, i always alway have to choke back a tear in Full metal alchemist.
English or Japanese, every time alphonse goes "brother!" its just so heartwrenching. the brotherhood in that movie, the sacrifices they commit for each other. I wont spoil anything, but time and time again, everytime they talk to each other after something wretched happens, it just tears me in two.
i guess thats just because I've never had that great of a relationship with my family, who knows.
also, when a few charecters have died in some series. sometimes i get really attached to them, and it just is unbearable when they die
such as: (Fullmetal Alchemist, s-CRY-ed)
Well, in FMA, itd have to be when general brigadere hughes died, just because of the way mustang handled it, and because he was only the coolest charecter ever. and then in S-Cry-Ed, when kimishima died, i just about lost it. He shouldnt have died, i have no idea why he did, but i had a few tears there. but the kicker of them all was when Scheris sacrificed herself for Ryuho, and then ryuho is sitting there in disbelief, and kazuma walks up to him and goes "the least you can do is cry. Cry for her damnit" and he just loses it. Its so powerful, and i end up losing it to
gosh i feel so gay. *sigh* they are just charecters in a show? why does it feel like they are my best friends sometimes.

I'm a guy and i'm not ashamed if i cry or admit anything that would demean a stereotypical guy. Crying doesn't mean your less of a guy, crying means your human and that your capable of feeling pain or compassion. Even though they are characters in a show, the show tells you their story, their trials ands sucesses and being attached to characters just means your feeling compassion.

..Oh, I can relate. After askng about it on another thread, I found out that the character I'm crying for is, infact, dead. I was in disbelief, but now...I know for sure.
I've grown endlessly attatched, and now...It's not fair. It makes me so angry. I feel so strange for running upstairs to cry, thinking about this character that is apparently long gone. But...It's not real, so why am I crying? I ask myself that.
Just...Out of all the characters, the one I declared my favourite from the beginning is gone. Why just this character? It just had to be my favourite one, didn't it...
Eh, sorry for complaining, but...I just can't believe this.
Naruto spoiler: Haku....Why Haku? Why him out of everyone else?

Wolf's Rain...I got choked up at a part on episode 26, choked up in episode 27, and cried during parts of eps. 28, 29, and 30. One of my favorite animes, personally.

Oh, no, I've failed in not crying. Only a few tears came up at my eyes, before, when I posted this, but now they're streaming down my face, because I just watched five minutes of episode 19.
(Naruto) If Zabuza dies, too, I will never forgive this show. It's unexplainable how heartbroken I'll be. Zabuza had better live.

I also find that the situation can be really sad but not have the full effect without perfect voice acting and the right background music. It can also have the most amazing background music but if played too low or too high it might not give the full effect.

Oh ya, in S-CRY-ed when kimishima died on his best friends back, that one was a tear jerker for me, he should NOT have died!! Needless to say it was dissapointing too! Kanimi [however name is spelled] knew right off he was dead, so sad...

Savvycat, use spoiler tags. You just ruined a big part of s-CRY-ed for me, thanks. I edited the appropriate tags into your post this time, but the next time you neglect to use them, your posts will be deleted without a moment's hesitation.

oh man after hearing your guy´s stories i feel better about myself. j/k i remember crying in COWBOY BEBOP when ed and ein left the bebop crew i was speechless and then came some tears. my girlfriend laughed at me because i was crying while she had no idea what was going on. the other night on adult swim during s-CRY-ed when kimishima died i teared up but didn't quite cry. nagisa that sucks that part was spoiled but youll live because thats like half way through the series and after that the true story unfolds. my sister cried like a big baby after finishing VOICES OF A DISTANT STAR. it was the first anime she ever saw and her boyfriend is in the army in iraq so she felt she could relate to it. i hope no one could relate to KOI KAZE though cause that would suck

Haha, It's Debateable. Drama series may not actually destroy me, because, well, it's the character that I cared about most that died horribly in this 'shounen series'. In Drama, isn't it all boringly sad? ._. I doubt I'd cry. Could you name me a few 'Drama' anime series?
Oh, and about the whole Naruto: Zabuza thing...Nooooo! ...The one person left...They had to take him, too. But, at least it was for a reason. A good death, one might say. Although I was crying pathetically for a while, there, I am still not in rage at the fact, unlike the other.
