Just read it today and have to say I enjoyed it. A very satisfying ending to the series, and far better than the ending of the original FMA anime. That one didn't feel like an ending, not even the movie felt like an end, but this feels final. We get to see the conclusion to everyone's journey, and a glimpse of their futures in the final page.

Speaking of final page ... spoiler[ is that Ed and Winry babies I see? Looks like two boys, so we have two new Elric Brothers. ]

I don't think I have EVER seen Arakawa's characters kiss in any facet of manga. Why start now?

After reading it today...wow. That was quite a ride. From start to finish...to movie finish...to chibi finish...to restart to finish...ish.

But for this! It was truly a memorable finish. All the same. Some people will argue over which anime was better, but the manga itself has become the truly definitive version that supersedes other media. I am glad to have stayed around for the trip. And I'm certain it shall always stay with us even further.

Now what the hell do I do? Back to Excel Saga, I suppose.

spoiler[Poor Hohenheim. I really feel sorry for him. I had a feeling he was going to die, but I didn't want him to. He'd finally reunited with Ed an Al after 12 years. I wanted him to be able to spend the rest of his life making up the time he lost with them. I really wanted Hohenheim to have a happy ending. He was such a tragic character.] Crying or Very sad

I haven't read it yet. I don't think I'll be able to wait for the Viz version yet, but at the same time I'm not ready for it!

The first anime got me into anime and manga (and Jpop) as a bona-fide otaku to begin with. I love Ed, Al, Winry, Roy, Riza, the Armstrongs, Pinako...I even love Den!

The whole story is a trip, with awesome characters and incredible adventures...as much as I hate never-ending carp, with FMA, I don't think I'm ready to say goodbye. ;(

(Note; and it isn't even my favorite series, or even my favorite shonen anymore. Just my first love, so to speak).

spoiler[He DID get a happy ending. ^^

He ended up dying, which was what he wanted all along. And now he'll be with Trisha forever. It's really bittersweet, but I would consider it to be happy.]

I really enjoyed the ending. It was a lot better than I expected it to be. It wasn't perfect, but it was damn good.

I'm usually the type to prefer the bittersweet ending. I liked the endings of the first FMA TV series and the movie. I enjoy the endings that are sort of up in the air and ambiguous (which isn't to say this final chapter ties up everything). But now and then, a happy ending works for me. This is one of those times.

I'm left with a journey of these characters running through my head and the world they live in imprinted in my mind, and the final chapter left me feeling very positive about it, like all is right with the world, at least for a moment. It's an ending I can live with for one of my favorite manga.

I was completely underwhelmed by the whole final including the ending which matches my perception of the manga as a whole. The manga had a very strong beginning and after an early climax in the first third it started to degrade continuously into boring shonen standard fare. Only some of the novel character designs and settings made it stand out somewhat. Like Death Note, I filed it under "overrated" personally.

If you really want to see the characters do that, there is always fanfiction and doujins. As well as fanart as well.

A good end, but I don't quite feel as fulfilled as I'd hoped. The conclusiveness is, of course, much better than the first anime, but I've got one major problem with the story: that those who have seen the gate must suffer physical punishment. Now, mostly, this fits perfectly fine with the message of the story and how humans shouldn't try to play god, but the incident where Mustang is involuntarily forced to open the gate and punished for it ruins this for me. Heck, Ed even calls "Father" out on his interpretation of how the five sacrifices received fitting punishments. If the gate were some kind of mindless force that fundamentally exacts some sort of toll, I might not be so bothered, but we're clearly shown that Truth exists there and is clearly a conscious entity. Also, it's kind of a dick. I suppose that's an explanation for why Mustang loses his eyesight (but not his eyes? So it just severed some nerve connections, I guess) despite not wanting to access the gate, but I find that disappointing.

I still don't understand. Why does Envy and Pride are the only two homunculus with "True forms"?!

And why Envy he's the only one who can transform?

And why there's a gate inside Gluttony?
I mean, why did "Father" tried to create a fake gate and why only in Gluttony?

And if "Father" didn't want to have emotions, why did he swallowed Greed's philosopher's stone again and didn't simply destroyed the stone?

And if he knew Greed is bound to betray him in the end because of his greedy nature, why he created a new Greed?

too lazy to look, but I know for sure that all the answers to your questions are between chapters 60-108. Go reread. For the "why only questions" well there is no answer. Father just did what he wanted and failed. Father didn't feel like failing a second time or doing the same shit he did with Wrath.

Um he needed to absorb Greed or turn Edward into a philosopher stone because he needs energy in order to suppress/control "God's" power. Father created a new Greed because the previous Greed was a controllable useful pawn. If the new Greed did what he was ordered to great. If they new Greed disobeyed orders, Father would just kill him.

Hmm kinda liked the ending. Nothing big happened. Guess I was expecting a shocker ending not a normal mundane one. I mean this is FMA right? A manga of this caliber certainly deserves a better ending. Well all writers hate endings so yeah....
