Same here, I like the counterfeit one better.

Still, I refrain from giving 2 ****s about Yu-Gi-Oh =P

Well that's your opinion.

The purpose of the illustration is to actually "see" the dragon. The counterfeit card doesn't come close to achieving that.

Then there's other things like background coloration and labeling that the real card also excelled at imo.

The real card looks better imo.

At least it's finally settled. But it's such a shame that the relationship ended like this. BUT Both parties should have done more to keep those fakes off the streets. what do you think they could have done to prevent this from ending badly.

Konami Digital Entertainment wasn't suing Upper Deck because UD wasn't doing enough to stop counterfeiting. KDE was suing UD for actively distributing counterfeits and passing them off as real cards. Before the settlement, the court ruled that there was enough evidence to find UD directly liable for counterfeiting.
