I stumbled across the poll on the top favorite Japanese anime cats, well what about the dogs? There are a lot of super funny and super duper cute ones like Cherry from Lucky Star, Mr. Tadakichi from Azumanga Daioh, Menchi from Excel Saga, Potato from air and my personal favorite, Buddy and Mini Buddy from Nichijou. Their roles might be silent. But they can have a big impact on a joke or scene in the anime. I'm curious in wondering what's your favorite anime dog and why? Very Happy

I'm pretty sure there was a poll about dogs as I recall I voted for Menchi from Excel Saga. How many dogs get to "sing" the closing song for the show? Also, the fact she survived 26 episodes without being eaten by Excel is pretty impressive.

I was always a John fan, but the other kids liked Riki, Gin or Ben more. I liked his non-extravagant, yet effective battle skills and that confident attidute. (From Ginga Nagareboshi Gin.)

Junkers from Junkers Come Here. He's funny, gives good advice, grants wishes and plays with the mind of the school crossing supervisor.

I'm with EricJ: Soichirio-san for me.

His very human crush on Kyoko and love of take-away (Is it yakitori he likes? I'm blanking.), and the fact that he and his owner are such an odd couple all make him very memorable. I think it's a clever and funny idea the way that though he's a sort of stand in for the human Soichiro, we gather there is no resemblance between then whatsoever.

Amazed no-one has mentioned Ein for Cowboy Bebop yet, that damn dog started my obsession with corgis :-/, Also that dog Nina from FMA was pretty damn hilarious spoiler[Just Kidding Razz].

I'm with you damien007 on my love for Ein from Cowboy Bebop, seeing his fun moments in the series always puts a smile on my face, my favorite one being the "Mushroom Samba" episode.

Inuki from X/1999 is also another favorite of mine as he is such a loyal companion to Yuzuriha.

since the first movie turned me on to other animated works from Japan, I have to mention Batou's friend

already mentioned, but also another favorite of mine.
He might not qualify as an emergency food supply or be inclined to step up to the mic like Excel's bud, but he certainly provides more than the "the look" and a wag o' the tail in his "supporting" role. Very Happy

This one's fairly minor, but I like Maru-chan from Kimi ni Todoke. He adds extra adorable to an already adorable show. Definitely agree with the suggestions of Black Hayate and Tadakichi-san as well.

Definitely the butter dog from Gantz. I mean, poor thing, end up as one of the participants of the game, and his only weapon were his teeth, spoiler[not a match for massive bronze alien statues]. Actually, that was one of my favourite 'characters' in the series.

Honourable mention for Densuke from Dennou Coil, he was kinda like the White Rabbit for the series. He may have been a plot device but he was a great device nontheless.

A virtual salute to you, Densuke.
