ok, as allways, risking a locked thread simply cos its so hard to tell if somethings effectively covered elsewhere : but, i do want to ask what anime series or movies people know about that are extremely violent. wether that is mindless violence, or substantiated violence... let me know.

I've seen "first of the north star" movie of course, and "berserk", but would like to hear all and any suggestions...

The Samurai X "Trust" and "Betrayal" DVDs are said to be pretty violent, but there's only 4 episodes there altogether, of what I know.
Otherwise I can't really help - sorry Anime smile + sweatdrop

Hellsing is chopped full of horrid bloody violence. Depending on your definition of violence you could say Evangelion was Ridicousley violent especially the movies( Death and rebirth) (the end of evangelion), but there is more religion there.

Mabey X is violent to agin depends on your definition.

out of chirousoty why did you ask your question?

OK, if you wont say it then I will.
People, you are missing the obvious. 2 words for you: ELFEN and LIED.
I mean that series is basically violence on top of violence raping each other. It has everything you could really imagine (well almost). Flying legs and arms and heads, people being smashed into heavy objects etc plus they show some emotional violence as well (spoiler[people, I will NEVER get the image of the molested girl from my head, NEVER, you hear me? NEVER.. god dammit just thinking about it freaks me out]). so if it`s violence you want go with Elfen Lied. Brutal as it be, it has a great plot to support the story - at least for me.

Battle Angel was fairly violent and has a pretty good story, if you like spoiler[sad endings.]

Did you mean Battle Angel (Gunnm)? Its manga version is way better.

A lesser known violent title is Shadow Star Narutaru. Don't be fooled by the cute character design. The TV anime was toned down to be aired, but the manga contains one of the bloodiest death I've ever seen. Contrary to titles like Berserk, where the story happens in a fantasy world and readers are prepared to see blood and gore following Guts' trail, Narutaru happens in our time and space with violence committed by the least expected persons. That's even more terrifying.

as some one said before berserk is way up there...very violent....a bit of nudity...great anime. Elfen Lied...which i've only seen some screenshots of seems very violent. Violence Jack....which is far from recommended is violent though...if thats all you want. I'd say berserk if you want a pretty serious violent anime..i cant seem to find anywhere to view elfen lied anyways....

I'd also have to say Elfen Lied. When I saw the first 10 minutes of the first episode, the thing that was going through my mind the most was 'sweeeeeeet!'. It's quite impressive Very Happy

As for the most violent thing I have -ever- seen, it most probably is the Gantz manga. If you've seen the anime, forget it, it's kiddy stuff. We're talking about people being torn limb from limb and cut into pieces by lasers and stuff. It's very hardcore...

Virtually half of Manga Entertainments catalog would suffice.

Angel Cop comes to mind. Senseless violence with enough bad dialogue to make the FCC scream bloody murder.

firstly *sweet, no thread lock* secondly, its because i really like that japan can mix entertainment with philosophical / existential stories or just accept violence as something thats not instantly "irresponsible" (or rather "influential") ...

i see "elfen lied" is out in japan without subs, and expected this year in the USA... seen the official site which has lots of movie clips on and a brief run down of the plot... looks cool.

any more suggestions for stuff already out there? thanks...

Wow, you know, I just watched the first six episodes of this at my anime club Sunday and would have to agree completely. Although, the scene I can't get out of my head is spoiler[When Lucy telekineticly rips off each individual limb of the other girl and they actually bothered to draw and show the fractured white bone sticking out. Or in the beginning of the first episode when she tore that womans head off and levitated it.] Ah my eyes! Certainly the most all around graphically violent anime I've seen, yet. Shocked

As for movies Ninja Scroll, Ninja Resurrection, Perfect Blue, End of Evangelion, Akira, Patlabor 3, Spriggan umm there must be more I just can't think of them. The most violent series I've seen is probably Berserk... and Hellsing isn't THAT violent. Wink

Yeah man that first episode was so cool, I was drooling all the way trough it. I couldn't believe my own eyes when spoiler[she killed that secretary. The second I saw her I though she was going to be the typical clumsy supporting character but then her head was torn off and her body used as a shield.]
