Just to add, in Japan the first Persona had the "Megami Ibunroku" prefix while the rest of the Persona series (2IS, EP, 3 and 4) had no prefixes.

Atlus USA uses the SMT prefix for name recognition since SMT: Nocturne really helped made the series popular in the US.
