Most excellent news.
I remembered when he came to Big Apple Anime Fest 2002 (I was a volunteer) and they held a premiere for the US releases of Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack. He presented the movie -- modestly stating, "Just think of it as Star Wars...though not as good" -- and rather than sitting in the front row like all the other guests of honor did, he chose to sit in the middle of the theater WITH the audience, in the aisle no less! A fan even ran up to him to get a picture, and he complied -- throwing up a "v" with his fingers.
After the movie he held a Q&A. Tomino is one of the few directors/creators I respect and hearing him talk about his work was pretty damn awesome.
I was on the fence about NYAF last year, but now I'm definitely going to be there.

Wow. I totally wasn't gonna go this year after the past two were so-so. What a guest. He's definitely worth going for.

He's finally going to make an appearance? Well, I'll be attending of course so I'll finally meet the FATHER of the mecha universe. Who's name is synonymous with 'Gundam' and 'Sunrise'.
Hopefully I'll have 'Zeta Gundam' finished by that time.

Man, I wish I could meet Tomino, or even be in the same room as him.
Back in 2002's BAAF, I was too busy getting hyped up for the Cowboy Bebop movie dub premiere to pay attention to Gundam (this was before I became such a big Gundam fan, also). (I did get Watanabe, Kawamoto, and Kanno's autographs on a poster, though!)

Quite a coup to pull that one out, wish I could make it there...
Been on a bit of a Gundam kick lately, recently watched:
the original MSG series
Zeta Gundam
08th Team
0080
CCA
F91
I think I'm going to pick up the 0083 box & 00's 2nd season starts on SciFi (SyFy - ) in 2 weeks IIRC.

Great news! Tomino was a genius for building the foundation of the legendary Gundam series. Zeta Gundam and Gundam ZZ are two of my all-time favorite anime shows period.

Why, oh god why do I live so fare away from everything good?
Tomino has been my favorite creator/director since I saw the original Gundam back in 2001. To hear him talk about his own work is such a treat. You don't find many directors that criticize there own work and constantly talk about not doing a good enough job like Tomino does. Especially considering his body of work.
I so wish I could meet him just once.
