Uhhh, I hope they got it cheap? I know Discotek's core base runs off loving old anime, but I doubt Yatterman, or most of Tatsunoko's more wacky 70s TV series, were part of that love. Even less love towards live-action based off of those properties... Just don't make it a hobby like Media Blasters, who ended up preferring garbage movies to licensing anime.

I just hope the movie does well enough for them to consider picking up the Yatterman anime series. be it the original or new series.

Not a chance as Discotek started out with low brow movies, including several based on manga, then started releasing anime. |

There was a recent movie too, that might be the easiest to get through and really test the waters. The older series might be a struggle, it's coming out on BD right now so it's not as if it's slipped into obscurity in Japan. If word gets out that a cheap American product were available, even on DVD, we can all guess the reaction Japan harbors now toward potential revenue loss. |

The UK might be really slow at getting anime but it seems the reserve is so when it comes to live-action. This film has been out in the UK for a while now.
I notice this quite often that we seem to get alot more subbed films first. |

I knew they were going to license a Yatterman related title. Which is good, cause the DVD I have on the live action movie has unusual jump cuts and I promise myself to get rid of it if the film will ever get a legit release in America.

The newer series actually has an English dub, that I guess Discotek could track down if they decided to pick that up.

Some of Discotek's low brow movies do have genuine cult and film buff appeal, though. Jailhouse 41 is considered a classic of its genre. Bohachi Bushido also has some interest as well. I don't know much about Media Blasters' films. I'd say Animeigo was the company that transitioned best from anime to live action films. A lot of their live action acquisitions are genuine classics. |

I enjoy most of what Discotek has licensed in their foreign live action film category as well as their anime category. When it comes to foreign live action films, I always try to track down every single one that is avalible on R1 DVD or Blu-ray if possible.

Glad this finally got licensed. Big fan of Miike, but an even bigger fan of Katsuhisa Namase. (He always brought a smile to my face as Vice-Principal Goro in the "Gokusen" series
 )

Discotek seems to be carving out a niche for obscure stuff, but I hesitate to say it's profitable.

I see this acquisition to be a problem
1. The IP that the film is obscure: The only exposure that the Yatterman characters got in the US was the crappy dub of "Time Bokan: Royal Revival" and the video game Tatsunoko vs. Capcom 2. Why license the film and not the anime? |

1. Because of what you said on #1 2. Because both shows are long with the amount of episodes that they have. Not to say they won't get any of Yatterman but it could all depend on how this film does for them in sales. |

The trailer for it looks pretty wacky. I think I'll probably end up getting this. Sometimes I get a hankering for some J-cheeze.
