Awesome, going to get the blu-ray of this! Too bad it won't be playing anywhere in NY.

I bet the digital run will get it to NY; pretty sure the physical screening is to qualify it for a potential Academy Award nomination (which requires a 1 week theatrical run in LA County). Timing that run to coincide with Anime Expo is a nice touch.

Hmm, one of the theaters near me, which is no where near LA or even what you could call a bit city, has gotten a few anime films before so fingers crossed that they get this one (and before I go back to school too).

Yaaaaay!! I've been waiting for this one for a while. Thank you, Sentai, I will preorder this when it gets solicited!

(Edit: hahaha, FireChick and I both posted at the exact same time to say "YAAAAAY". This is a happy thread.)

It a fully already had a showing in New York back in April. Perhaps the LA showing is to make it eligible for Academey Award consideration?

This is probably the least surprising announcement in the year, with all the clues that have been dropped. I'm a little surprised they didn't save it for AnimeExpo though.

I'm definitely looking forward to this one.

Very cool. I already own the LE Japanese import, but I may have to double-dippage if there's a dub.

It was decent, but relied on following the Ghibli/Miyazaki formula too closely to make a truly unique piece. I'd definitely like to see it in theaters if it came around, but I doubt it'll get more than 200 screens, if that.

Can't see why there wouldn't be, films and big OVAs are definitely worth spending for the money for: it's short and putting that extra work into it lets it go that much further. Dubbing 26 episode show, which is more like 9-10 hours of film, obviously costs a whole ton more for much less bang.

While I agree with the Oscar run, I just hope its airing in New York earlier didn't somehow disqualify it.

Now I'd love a blu-ray 3-pack of 5 Centimeters Per Second, Voices of a Distant Star, and The Place Promised in our Early Days Smile

Awesome. I was really hoping someone would come out and license this, as I'm definitely loving Shinkai's films and I'm sure this will be no exception.
