Becca teamed up with the Japanese group Bennie K to become "BENNIE BECCA" when one of their singers decided to stop doing vocals and work behind the scenes. They came out with an album and I was actually very impressed, she has a really strong voice.

I like Becca's song "I'm Alive". It's loud enough and full of excited emotion. That, and her voice is strong, thus giving the song a strong personality. At least, that's what I think. I had no idea she was part of the Warped tour, though. I have a few friends who went---I'll ask if they saw her perform.

I wonder if these girls know what Japan does to their idols when they're done with them. They go from otaku celebrities to nothing. Japan is way too trendy and jumps to the new trend real quick.

Even then, unless your name last name is Hirano or Hayashibara, your popularity is pretty much over. The only reason Hayashibara is still praised is because there are some old anime fans who still love her.

If you're attractive, talented and an anime fan in America, most people will acknowledge the first two, but tell you to drop "the porno cartoons if you want to get somewhere" (I've been told this before, and it pisses me off.)
If you're attractive, talented and an anime fan in Japan, you get recording deals. Once again, Japan wins. (and yes, I know that was an incredibly oversimplified analysis of the situation, but still...) Congrats, girls! Keep up the great work! |

Woooo yeah! I've been following HIMEKA since her debut. She's got a good thing going over there, that's for sure. It's certainly strange, as others have mentioned, that being an Anime fan is such a huge burden outside of Japan. I guess we'll all just have to move to Japan
I'm sad that I missed HIMEKA's only Western appearance in Montreal, but I'm sure she'll come west again as her popularity grows 
As for the others mentioned in the article... well, I hadn't heard a whole lot about them up until now. I guess I'll have to check them out! Any recommendations out there for songs to start with? Edit: OK, my mistake. Apparently I read August and thought July... I need a translation device for my own mind it seems. So, HIMEKA's concert is still in the future

I'm Alive's lyrics is 100% english iirc, but Himeka's songs are fully japanese.

I'm glad you brought that up. Did you know one of our English VA, Yuri Lowenthalis actually fluent in Japanese? Because of his fluency and seeing how people in Japan importing and liking the English dub. Talent agency in Japan could maybe try bringing non-Japanese VA who are fluent in Japanese to lend their voice in anime. I could see Yuri Lowenthal may have that potential to voice anime in Japanese language because 1. his voice has been heard in not only anime. American video game that are not dubbed in Japanese (I believe Yuri voiced characters in the Medal of Honor series and has been heard in Resident Evil), also don't forget Ben 10 and other American animation (Japanese fan and agency could like his voice) 2. He's very famous among anime fan (including Japanese fans) 3. lastly: He's fluent in Japanese It would be nice for Yuri Lowenthal or any other English VA who speak Japanese fluently to lend a Japanese-speaking role in a anime. I wonder what the Japanese fan will think of Yuri Lowenthal voicing anime character in Japanese. Will it be just like how Mari Ijima and Miyuki Sawashirolend their voice in English for anime. Another person that could end up being famous in Japan is Cristina Valenzuela aka Cristina Vee. She may not speak Japanese. But her singing talent could get attention in Japan. I saw and heard her singing the Sailor Moon song in English, and other like that. Some English-speaking fan may not like her singing, but Japanese fan may like her because of her singing. She wouldn't be the first, I was browsing around ANN and found this intresting old articleabout one of our English VA, Karen Hsin singed in a concert in Japan with fellow Japanese VA. That something I didn't know. Kudo to Karen Hsin .

By the time they're "done" I'm pretty sure they will have enough cash to live their lives happily. They're done if they don't acknowledge that keeping up the career is no longer viable. In that case you'd turn into Britney Spears or something. As long as they don't use medicine to change their color to yellow they'll be fine. And as long as they don't do a live-action dance (*cough*Beckii*cough*) for the ending/opening of an anime I enjoy I wouldn't really care about how they live. |

Usually the more money someone makes, the less they save. They'll probably be broke when Japan throws them away because they will most likely squander the money away like almost all celebrities. |
