A very well-deserved review for this charming series. I look forward to Funimation's complete set release of this series.

Bamboo Blade is one of my favorites~

However, I've got a much better comparative analogy (IMO), and that is 'Bamboo Blade is Martian Successor Nadesico in school, crossed with sports.' I've always liked my Nadesico comparison because I think many people have a really hard time digging into Bamboo Blades' deeper themes, which are very similar and presented almost identically to those in Nadesico. People remember Nadesico as a show that was silly on the surface, but then unbelievably deep underneath, and I think that Bamboo Blade is the same way, and I hope that one day, when the only ones left talking about it are people like me, who really put the show on high, it will be remembered that way.

Wait, Bamboo Blade has a Gai Daigouji character? If so I'll buy it in a heartbeat. It's full of parody? I had assumed there wasn't much parody involved.

Actually the main character is a it's Gai Daigoji. She subverts it by being ultra-quiet, but she is obsessed with tokusatsu show Blade Braver and tries to live out it's heroic concepts. This ends up spreading to the rest of her friends, and they all start being characterized as the different colors of the Bravers.

There is not as much parody in BB as in Nadesico, because BB plays a lot of things straight, but then it also is about as self-aware as Nadesico was, just less... flamboyant? In any case, it certainly knows how to lovingly parody tokusatsu shows, and there is actually an episode wherein the main character gives a whole speech about how amazing Taniguchi Goro is, so take that as you may~

I just finished watching this yesterday, thanks Netflix.

It has a good mix of action, comedy/slice of life. The girls being attractive helped too. Embarassed
The drama towards the end was also good.
I really enjoyed the show overall. Thanks to this, Big Windup, and a little bit of Slam Dunk I might check out more sports anime.

One other thing I liked was there are a few opportunities for the show to go into fanservice mode, but never really does. A little disappointing to be honest but it was refreshing.

I'm not really a fan of most sports anime. But this show deals little towards focusing mainly on the sport and more in the way of being comedic and slightly action oriented, I gave it a shot. To be honest, I never actually considered it a sports anime until just now.

Really good show.

Pretty decent overall.
My favorite moment was the episode titled first public bath house trip.
This was during the training camp.

spoiler[Where they are shown entering the bath house, and then the next scene was a girl asking Tamaki how her first trip to the bath house was. They could have done the standard bath house episode, but glossed over it, leaving it to your imagination.]

Overall, this did not make my buy meter currently, but might in the future when discounts kick in.

I'm not usually a fan of sports anime, but kendo IS my sport. There are a few of us westerners who put on the authentically stinky armor and do the rigidly formal martial art, and some of us are even anime fans.

Glad to hear that the show is good. Of course, I bought it anyway, because it was about kendo. Smile

I've already heard good things about Bamboo Blade previously, and Hope's review seems to confirm all that, so this has already been a title i've strongly considered watching/buying down the road. But...

Seeing as how Nadesico was one of my favorite series and based on the parallels you draw between the two series, looks like I'm just about sold on this show.
