Wasn't Zac Efron up for a live action Full Metal Panic too? Are studios picking him because he's comes with manga hair?! Really I haven't seen him be 'good' in anything but on the other hand starring him may open anime/manga to a new audience.

If people stopped baselessly speculating about Zac Efron being involved in the Death Note movie, the chances of it actually happening would be much lower. Unfortunately, it appears that the opposite is happening.

DO IT, DO IT!

Normally, I'm not one to judge a film before actually seeing it, but the leaked script draft sucked. If it's not going to be a great film, it might as well have great lulz~

Actually, I've heard Me and Orson Welles is really good; wonder if Efron redeemed himself in it at all.

We were never able to confirm the authenticity of that script, but between small details of the PDF and the way in which it was altered, I'm now of the opinion that it was probably real. But it was just a first draft, which means it would have gotten even worse by the time it was made.

Hollywood writers can't just adapt, they always have this habit of needing to put their stink on everything. It's institutional, really.

i hope so otherwise we be sitting around waiting for the inevitable epic fail that would be an Efron starred Death Note like we did with Dragonball.

as much as i would love them to pick a no name actor for Light, Zac could pull off a decent Light Yagami. Acting wise, I've got nothing against him but I'm not sure if he could pull off the the entire spectrum of Light, if they end up keeping that in the script.

But I may be getting ahead of myself. With our luck, he might get cast as L. hahahaha

Either way, he likes death note. and i feel like its mainstream enough for him to not be faking it. so i'll take it.

I honestly have no problem with Zac Efron as Light, they're both pretty boys. Smile

Zac Efron looks the part, and he would bring some good star-power into the movie. This would help bring in a bigger audience.

However, two points:

1): Most of the people he would bring in would be his young female fans, not the sort of people who would be interested in a story like Death Note.

2): He can't act. I mean, he really can't. I absolutely cannot see him playing a dastardly and intelligent character like Light. His performance would ruin any parts the crappy script didn't quite reach.

This highly opinionated post was brought to you by dtm42 and the new Duff Black.

I guess Zac Efron no longer likes making money.

I'd pretty much say that of anyone in the West who thinks making a live-action anime is a good idea. For whatever reason, it just doesn't seem to work.

minaki: The trailers and clips I've seen for Orson Welles are nifty. The guy has the potential to break out of teen idol hell, but only if he's willing to expand his acting range. I'm surprised he's a fan of the source material, though, given that it's a lot darker than what he's known for.

jsevakis: Of course the script sucked. They need to keep it PG like DB:E, and center the story around Misa, so it'll appeal to the Twi-hards. Rolling Eyes Speaking of DB:E, did you ever see the leaked script?

Zac: Yeah, I know. Sometimes it's hard to tell the difference between fan-fic writers and legit screenwriters nowadays. Laughing

AnimeDoll: Why? He looks like Light and can portray that "valedictorian" aspect of the character perfectly. Plus, it'll be interesting to see his dark side. Sort of like Cuba Gooding Jr. on the Chappelle Show.

atun: I'd rather they just bring over Matsuyama for L, since I can't imagine anyone else taking his place.

dtm: Um, you do know a big chunk of DN's audience is female, right? Otherwise, you wouldn't have stuff like this. NSFW and shonen-ai haters.

And I dunno about acting talent, since I don't want that teeny-bopper stuff, but he does stand out by being more enthusiastic about his performances. And that is a plu. Anyway, I'll still take him over Justin Chatwin.

Funny but I understand where AnimeDoll coming from, I mean to me Zac Efron still stinks of high school musical. Then again far be it for me to condemn any one person for doing something I strongly disliked.
Anyway moving on... I see nothing wrong with the first Death Note movie, so why remake it? I say 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'.
