For the record: Kazuo Kitagawa, the head of the Japanese Kewpie Club and supervisor of the upcoming TV series, had a copyright infringement lawsuit with Q.P. Corporation 11 years ago. The flame even burned its way to Taiwan.

Anime has had some copyright issues with adaptations of Western properties.

According to it's Wikipedia entry on Lupin III, "Monkey Punch's inspiration for the series was the fictional French gentleman thief Arsène Lupin, created by Maurice Leblanc. However Monkey Punch did not ask permission to use the character's name, leading to eventual copyright issues with the Leblanc estate."
