It's not one of my favorite places, because they got idiots running the projectors. [And the schedules.] But it seems to have a following-possibly because the Egyptian only plays the "classics" nowadays. I just hope I don't get stuck with a shaky camera and a backwards- running clip this time...

Both Belladonna of Sadness and Mind Game will be released on DVD in Germany this year - coincidence, or could this be a sign for a R1 release?

It's probably coincidence, unless 4c and TezukaPro are cutting out the middle-man. I remember Arias saying Sony didn't want to pick up Mind Game, because it was on Youtube. Of course, given the state of the current market, I imagine a film like Mind Game would actually benefit from exposure to Youtube.

I haven't heard of Belladonna of Sadness before, but after seeing a trailer, I need to find a a damn copy. It's like Angel's Egg by way of Heavy Metal. Looks amazing!

BTW, as I learned the hard way tonight, they can be real dicks about getting tixx. So either show up half an hour early, or order on-line. You've been warned.

For some reason, the guy running the place offered me a beer, but I declined. Anyway, I finally saw that effer, and I realize that we really got screwed, being forced to settle for TK. [Sorry, Mike, but sometimes less is more.] Yes, MG was on Youtube, but how the f*ck else do you expect to sell it?! It doesn't have the familiar talent behind Memories, nor the flashy animation of your typical shonen series. Hell, the irony is that, in spite of being Japanese, it's probably the most American-looking animation I've seen in years, compared to the real thing. But, ironically, that kind of style's actually gonna look "foreign" to kids raised on cartoon sitcoms made in Korea. So WOM was the only way MG was going to break even, anyway.
Still, I think this sucker could get a second chance at success, if they re-released it in 3-d. I'm serious; I'd actually pay for Mind Game in that format, and I generally consider 3-d to be a rip-off like BD. It's that good. But when today's studios don't even take Western animators seriously, I can understand how this flick's a tough sell. Nonetheless, MG's the most easy-going ride I've had in years.
