I saw they were releasing a new boxset for Berserk for the 23rd and was going to order it. However somebody claimed that it only had one language track, the Japanese one.

When I double checked on Amazon, lo and behold there was only one language listed. And apparently they're not in stock yet for some reason so I can't just ask someone who has them already.

So does anyone know if this will include both English and Japanese audio? And if there was a last minute change in release date?

It has the English audio, but it's been delayed.

I see. So the amazon site info is just lacking info rather than saying it doesn't have the language track. Thanks.

I wonder why it got delayed though.

It's not really certain.... An official site says that it's going to be released in March and a retail site says that they're going to get it on January 6th.

What does "remastered" mean here? I have the original collection but I don't know what to make of this other than the new box?

It's not really a "remaster". More like a "re-encode". The original DVDs were interlaced and had mono problems, so this set will have a new progressive transfer, along with the audio problems being fixed.

The entire Anime legend, Berserk, in one collection. Completely remastered, every bloody battle and brutal strike like theyve never been seen before.

Thats what they say online atlest.
but i agree i think its like a ''re-encode'' to Very Happy .

would be awsome if they increased the quality to ofc maby blue-ray Wink hehe.

Features of the Remasterd ''Version''
Japanese 2.0 Language, English 2.0 Language, English Subtitles, English dub Outtakes, Interviews, Original Japanese openings and closings, Textless openings and closings, Animated storyboards, Art galleries, Production sketches, Original TV opening, Alternate TV opening, Music videos, TV Spots

If it were truly remastered like the Eva DVDs or like all those HD remasters being released in Japan I would pick them up without a second thought. It would be sad if it just a re-encode like the 5.1 Bebop DVDs of the same transfer.

Yeah, I might rebuy it if it is really a new transfer. They really need to get a new transfer on the Rurouni Kenshin TV DVDs, maybe they'll do that next?

I'm really interested in reviews by anyone who gets this for more information on how much it improved from the original.

Yeah, I might rebuy it if it is really a new transfer.

From the guy who is in charge of the Berserk release linked to in the previous post wrote:
A beautiful progressive encode, straight from film masters
- Sharper image
- Better color
- Even better than the original Japanese DVDs

I know he says encode, but if it is straight from the masters wouldn't that be considered a new transfer? I'm not sure, that's why I ask.

You should take a look at that link, since he puts up some screencaps of the original and the remastered. If those turn out to be accurate, then it is pretty impressive. Clean up or new transfer or not. Go look, you can't miss them.

For me since I never got the old discs, and I am interested in the series it is an instant buy for me. Anime hyper

Edit:
He also put up a side by side comparison video 60 MB (.mov). Though you might have to pause it to see the color differences. But artifacts seem to be no more.

My fault for only reading the top of his thread link.

I think this might be of a little bit of benefit to me. Basically, I already got rid of the interlacing artifacts shown in his pictures because
1) even if I were using dvds Kaffeine/mplayer/etc. have filters that eliminate that. I transcode to x264 though, and I used a deinterlace filter here.

2) Noise is a problem of the original, which the new transfer and my encoding both help with.

I did a 3 way comparison between my encode of the show, the original dvd shots included and the screencaps and mine is about half-way in between the 2. So the new transfer/encode is a little better than simple post-processing effort.

Combine the new encode with further post-processing and you'd get even better (you can only go so far in denoising a source without hurting fine details).

So I think I will probably pick this up to replace the original, the price is good anyway so there isn't much loss here. I just took awhile to buy Berserk (originally watched it off a friends dvds) so I didn't get it until the middle of last year. In hindsight I should have waited a bit.
