Nope, never saw this coming:

"Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi: One of Japan's biggest pop music acts arrives in America, not with a massive stadium tour but as a cartoon. Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi, set to debut in December, follows the adventures of two very cool, but very different, pop stars as they travel from gig to gig or just hang out in their hometown of Tokyo. Ami is the peppy, positive and resourceful one. Yumi is the hard-rocking, no-nonsense cynic with an absolutely infallible sense of cool. Together, they take the world by storm, despite occasional misjudgments from their well-meaning but tragically square manager, Kaz. Hi Hi Puffy Ami Yumi also will feature live-action segments starring the real life Puffy AmiYumi as well as the group's catchy J-pop hits."

Well, I guess if anything is going to get J-pop into the mainstream it's this. Almost sounds to bizare to be real, but it was listed on a new CN press release of new shows coming this year. I'm sure ANN will have the press release up soon, but for now you can see it here.

That picture is just...uh...huh.

I think this is really strange for some reason. I don't know...it's almost like a Mary Kate & Ashley movie turned into an anime tv series...
Not a bad thing, just different. But, hey, Jpop is fun, so might as well go big when trying to introduce it mainstream.

Are we one step closer to a Dir en Grey sentai series or can I ignore this? Laughing

LOL omg Nagisa, if a Dir en Grey sentai series spawned, mini lolita goth fangirls wearing super bondage face masks would be the nightmare of every soccer mom in America. *how she wishes it could be true*
Sounds (and looks) like a cutesy, funny 'lil show. I agree that this would help introduce jpop into the mainstream and hopefully open the door for many eastern pop/rock artists. I'll be looking out for this one. Wink

Laughing THAT there is my version of paradise. Dir en Grey and J-rock inspired fashions... FOR ALL!

I wonder if AmiYumi will become a household name before Hikki-chan.

Showing my age here a bit, but as long as this new show is looks more promising than this monstrosity.

Wow...just wow. I'd have to agree that it does look better than Pink Lady and Jeff. That sounded just awful! *lol*

my guess is they're aiming this at a younger demographic...but I'm looking forward to the live-action segments at the least.....ah who am I kiddin'--I'll watch it all the way through 'coz its Puffy!!

I hope the music for that series doesn't diverge from Puffy's usual eclectic style.......matter of fact, I hope the pop-great Andy Sturmer is somehow involved in this project....

btw...they have a new album coming out:

Despite whether this show might be good or not, at least it's nice to know that there's someone out there who isn't afraid to show a kid's show that let's everybody know it's in Japan.
