The English Dub of this has aged badly. I'm saying this as this is the first time I'm watching it (finally off the bucket list!). I do however like the first and last episodes op in English as well as sub and found one of the ed good too. What kills the dub is Priss who is the main character. Having said all that I'm glad it's included and looking forward to Animego's past Wilmington, NC dubs in the future from a teaching perspective. As for the set and the OVA itself, A+ because I'm still going through it!

I have the older Blu-ray release that AnimEigo did in 2018. I'm glad they did this new release, it's good to know they're going to keep this show accessible to both new and old fans at a reasonable price.

Does seem like a glaring typo that should have been corrected, doesn't it? |

It isn't that it aged badly - that dub has been infamous for its poor quality from the day it was released. Even at the time Pioneer, Viz, Manga and Streamline were putting out better dubs than this. It's a shame it never got redub by a better studio. Especially now that technology exists to separate out voices from the Japanese track, the lack of an M&E track would be much easier to overcome. |

Though I can appreciate the original as a trend-setter and stylistic effort, I have always preferred the TV series reboot 2040 because it's more cohesive and consistent, develops all of its characters better, and lays a better foundation for its story. (And has a MUCH better English dub; Hilary Haag will always be the voice of Nene for me.) I know a lot of people weren't happy about it opting for more of a techno than rock-based musical score, but I thought it did pretty well on that front, too. Admittedly, it wasn't as stylish or cutting-edge, and its take on Boomers did get weird in the end, but at one point it was probably the series I most frequently rewatched. Can't say the same for the original.

I just bought the previous release last year along with 2040 (highly underrated). Sat through an entire Sunday watching the full OVA series and loved every minute of it. In Japanese of course. Tried the English dub as hard as I could; by the time I got to all four girls, I gave up. Good lord, how far we've come.
Halfway through 2040 right now. Deserves a remaster. |

I picked this and Crash up from Animeigo directly (slipcovers!) and it's next on my classic watch list as this season is winding down.
Been a while since I've watching it, so looking forward to checking out this great release ![]() |

Yes. I was able to get the soundtracks to 2040: ![]() ![]() The composer of the soundtracks is Koichi Korenaga, better known for his work as guitarist with Yuki Kajiura. |

I have the Kickstarter set and am happy with it-no need to get another release. I also have the original dvd release-BTW, I disagree on the dub. I thought it was quite good, I'd rate it as 8 out of 10 possible points.

Bubblegum Crisis is one of my favorite OVA series, never really jelled with the sequels or spin-offs.
Got this on Laserdisc, but got the Kick-Starter BD's. |

Rather envious here. I kept an eye out for that one for years (including my two trips to Japan) but never ran across it. |

The anime that made me return to anime.
Over 12 years ago, after the rush in my brain caused by watching a 30th anniversary showing of Blade Runner at the Fastasporto movie festival, I searched for everything that was in any way inspired by Blade Runner, and the first anime that caught my attention was Bubblegum Crisis. One obsession lead to another obsession, and quickly, I started swallowing up anime. A lot of my first were cyberpunk anime, of course. After Bubblegum Crisis and its spin-offs, including the awesome 2040 (that back then I didn't care for much, but look back fondly), I watched Silent Mobius, both films and series, and everything Ghost in the Shell, and Armitage III, and Megazone 23, etc. But I was also watching Neon Genesis Evangelion, R.O.D. the TV and the OVA, Elfen Lied, watching Cardcaptor Sakura for the first time in tis original, unaltered version, and many many others. It's the anime that cemented my love for cyberpunk, 80's style music, and most of all, anime. After having loved anime in my childhood, I returned with a vengeance, non-stop since. And for that, I am eternally thankful. Sorry. Simply talking about Bubblegum Crisis revives my enthusiam for life. |

Ah, Bubblegum Crisis. The anime that boldly answers the questions: Do you remember Blade Runner? Do you remember Streets of Fire?
One of my favorite anime. I especially love the raw quality of Kinuko Omori's voice acting as Priss and the expert voice acting of Yoshiko Sakakibara as Sylia. My favorite episodes were actually directed by Masami Obari! Probably the best things he ever did, by the way, though that's not a particularly high bar. |
