I watched the boxset release for peach girl, moon phase, solty rei and black cat recently. I watch them on a PS2.
Without fail, the last two episodes on disc 4 always come up with a read error, on all 4 sets. They play fine on my normal dvd player. Anyone else experience anything weird with recent funimation releases. It seems too oddball to be the PS2.

Have you tried other DVDs on your PS2 to confirm that it's the DVDs? I expect you're right and it is the DVDs, especially since Funimation doesn't really have the best track record with this kind of thing. It would be a good idea to be sure though.

I've had some issues with Viridian discs from Funi, but not too much else. My Kiddy grade discs will not work on this computer, but they work just fine in another. I therefore just ripped/backed-up the discs so I can watch on this computer.
Sadly that's not an option for a ps2, but discs can have some odd peculiarities.

I've had issues playing dvds on some games systems, even though they can do it they just don't have as good compatibility as an actually dvd player, I've had dvds that had one mark that would freeze in my 360 but play fine in a dvd player, the best thing to do is use dvds in dvd players and leave the game systems to games.

I haven't purchased any of the newer FUNimation collections, but I've had similar experiences with Bandai DVD's. My home DVD player, PS2, and 360 would have a lot of skipping and disc read errors on several different series and the only player that would run them fine was my laptop.
Lucky for me I got a PS3 and that plays everything fine, including .avi's . It really just depends on the DVD player.

I've had the same exact problem, except for with FMA and a 360 instead of PS2. But they worked on a standard/actual DVD player...except one of them worked on the 360 but not the DVD player...but then, everything in my house is jacked up.
