I... I don't have good feelings about this with the breaks becoming more frequent I really hope both of them are alright. I can only hope the silver lining is they have a good relationship with the editorial staff who give them the support for these breaks.

As far as I'm concerned, they can take all the time they need.

I hope everything is alright with the two of them and hopefully this doesn't turn into a Hunter X Hunter situation.

I hope so too! I wish them good health for working in the manga!

It's probably for story-planning reasons, Freiren is much more carefully written than I think people realise, and there's an obvious complexity coming up in a volume or two.

Back when the first anime season was in production, there were a couple "indefinite hiatus."
First one was for about two months starting in March 2023, then for six months in September 2023 as the anime production was full throttle and releasing at the same time. It's pretty well established that Frieren's authors were both involved with the anime's season 1 production, so I would have to assume the same is true for season 2.
If I had to guess, it would be that this hiatus, along with the ~3 month one we had starting last May, are probably related to season 2 production for the anime.

Just keep everyone healthy, that's the most important thing.*
(*Easy for me to say, though, I'm not reading the manga. I'd feel the same way if I were, though.)

I'm hoping it's this too.
And also because it'd be cool if the anime also plans to adapt the current ongoing arc, which looks like it is heading to it's climax.
If it does, then next season will have covered 3 major arcs that involve several key characters that would make for a spectacular grand finale on par with season 1.
