I was hoping that they would have another season. I've read the web novel and the first season was just a set up for more interesting stuff.

The first season wasn't spectacular, but it was an interesting enough take on the "older guy becomes stronger" concept that I'll definitely watch this sequel.

Excellent news. I liked this franchise most during its broadcast period, and there's plenty more material that can be adapted.

Glad to see this is getting a second season too (thought I was mixing up this and the other undead adventurer series when I first read it, but they're just both getting second seasons lol).
I'm curious to see where his evolution goes from here

A curious announcement since the light novel (Japan side) has been dead for over a year, the web novel by 3 years and the manga stopped updating in May 2024. I think other then a certain scene that is likely in season 2, most of the good material occured in season 1. Since the author waffles on only 2 major events happened in the other 9 novels published.

You would be right had this announcement been posted a few days prior.

Web novel is essentially finished from what I remember, so it's the progress of the light novels which determine if the franchise has run its course. 7 month gap between 12 and 13 and now a 1 year gap between 13 and 14. Even writers have their mental blocks I suppose.

Author was taking a break for health related reasons as well. He talks about making health related life changes in some of the author sections at the end of the books.

Interesting, I enjoyed this enough that I followed the manga until it went completely off the rails.

Thanks for the details. I had asked around r/lightnovels about what was happening and only got derision and downvotes for asking.

As for the web novel being finished, well based on the Japanese titles it ended on the material this volume 14 of the light novel is covering. Which leaves open the main stories progress and the big thing it has been talking about for the last 3 volumes of the blacksmithing competition and events surrounding. The Sea Side City was essentially a side quest to get an ingredient.

I think it was more where the author changed focus to the light novel, then any ending to the story.

I'm thinking it's a similar situation as Tensei Slime where it got picked up part way of it being written as a WN so the author cut the WN short to focus purely on the LN.
