Wow, I did not see this coming. I don't read the novel though, so of course not.
But it's not like this has an overarching plot, so I'm curious what makes this arc the last.

I have yet to read novel 19 or 20, but based on established lore, the ultimate destination for the franchise has to be spoiler[a quest to defeat the Black Dragon].

Does seem too early for that, though, so I suspect that this will be the final arc for "Bell's younger years" and then it's going to time-skip forward to finish.

A black dragon, you say. I wonder if the anime ever mentioned that? I can’t remember every conversation…

it was mentioned in season 2 during the rakia/brigid arc! specifically eps 11 & 12!

it also was hinted during that arc as the one eyed dragon of destruction, and it certain scenes from the anime indicate from both those arcs thatspoiler[ it was responsible for the death of Aiz Walenstein's parents!] specifically, eps 9 of sword oratoria and ep 12 of the brigid arc!

unfortunately, killing it might have some unintended consquences that might cause bell and aiz to go into conflict with one another again ala the xenos arc

[EDIT: Spoiler tags added because this goes beyond anything that the animation hints at. - Key]

Oh wow. I wonder how many volumes the final arc will take. 5? There's also the question of what level Bell will reach. I heard rumors that Albert was spoiler[Level 10] so maybe that far, but one assumes that Bell at least reaches 6 like Ais. Hopefully the final arc has plenty of Ais.

Actually the word “arc” is not exactly accurate, it’s more like “part/season/saga”. Every “part” isn’t necessarily just one arc like there was one that had multiple arcs (Part 4: Vol 12-18).

Dang, almost hard to believe we're at the final arc.

Wonder what this means for Sword Oratoria.

SO vol 15 which is coming out next month and its going to intersect with vol 20 of the main story. For anime only viewers the only option is for the SO manga to reach that point and for the main story of the anime to get a season 6

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Albert was spoiler[from before the time of the gods in the lower world, so he didn't have a falna.]

Neat. I wonder if we'll get to see the whole thing animated one day.
Plenty of Sword Oratoria to animate to fill in the gap while we wait for the story to conclude!

That's always been the strong implication. (Though where he places in relation to the backstory tale "Argonaut" is rather vague.)

I fully expect the anime to do the whole series at this point. While stranger things have happened they're gonna be 18 volumes deep when this season finishes and given the series is so popular it would be strange to not get a season 6. I'm personally more curious about SO getting more anime seasons. Given that we'll only have 2 volumes of novels to adapt for the main series I could see them doing more of that until they have enough content for a season 6, or potentially a season 7 since I think they could do 2 volumes for a season if they wanted.

SO would ideally be the next move considering how much there is to cover but unfortunately the SO anime was very poorly received so I'm not very confident. On the other hand even with the release of vol 20 there's actually quite a bit of content to cover. From the unadapted short stories that gives some extra character development to the Hestia Familia to the prequel Astrea Record story. The latter has enough content for an entire season and considered the darkest arc.

would not be surprised if this gets an anime OVA. considering how popular it is!

I've heard that before which is disappointing. I'd want to argue that the SO anime came out years ago at this point and that it's worth trying again, but I know that isn't how companies think. The franchise does certainly have a lot of options for things it could adapt so if they wanted they certainly could do other things. It just sucks that what is probably the second most important of the other stories in the world missed the mark so much and won't get animated.
