I wonder if they intend to make it a successor to Aikatsu (long-running franchise - young girl demographic) or Love Live (standard length franchise - adult male demographic) or just a standalone season with no intention of turning into a franchise,at first glance I would say the latter, Sunrise hasn't done a lot of idol series but they've all been great.

Feels like a more magical version of Love Live.

There's nothing like seeing the phrase "original Sunrise production" to make me wonder if Sunrise blended every possible girl show trend seriously or if it's going to subvert itself after the midpoint?
[Sees the very obvious zipper on the back of the cute magical girl mascot]
Yeah....

Didn't Sunrise as a studio changed their name recently?
Did they choose to keep the Sunrise brand for marketing purposes?

That's funny, I don't ever remember LL having a very important male character who caused a massive friction among the shipping fandom like the ones from Little Witch Academia and Hibike Euphonium. Maebashi Witches has a male frog mascot who's obviously very important. This anime is more like the magical version of Idolmaster with Producer-san being a mascot. Also, the idols are voiced by rookies, the frog is voiced by a very popular guy. So there's a good chance that many people will cheer for the frog instead of the idols who are the main stars, simply because of his VA. Shades of Idolmaster Cinderella Girls. As a LL fan, putting this anime in the same league as Love Live, just because they're both animated by Sunrise and they have the "same feel", is just preposterous.

And many people are already jumping the gun and saying this is yuri, sarcastic or not. That zipper detail is a small detail that can make a big impact. That male frog can be the show's Producer/Trainer/Sensei self-insert and also the Tuxedo Mask love interest for the girls. LWA and Hibike are two major yuribaits and this one has the potential to put them to shame. Funnily enough, this isn't Sunrise's first yuribait anime either. This is basically Cross Ange with magic and idols. This is just months away from the airing, so they could bring more male love interests. Even worse when they do it at the very first episode, just like Cinderella Girls and Cross Ange did.
Yuri fans, if you think this is going to be a brand new Love Live, or at least new K-On/Bocchi the Rock/Girls Band Cry, boy is this going to be bad for you. I may be very paranoid but I just don't want to get my hopes up for this anime if I want a yuri-friendly anime. At the very least, I pray that yuri wins in the end like in Gundam Witch. Hope for the best, expect the worst.

Cross Ange didn't introduce Tusk in the first episode.

Yeah, that's kinda boggle me too, because nowadays they reserve Sunrise brand strictly for the Gundam series, while even Love Live and Aikatsu use BN Pictures and Bandai Namco Filmworks brands.
Make wonder the real reason.

They merged with the video production part of Bandai Namco Arts, with Sunrise being the surviving entity. They're now known as Bandai Namco Filmworks. They still use the Sunrise name, for instance, they're listed as Sunrise on the Sandland movie
