More like the cult cinematic universe. Shinrankai is basically Happy Science in a Buddhism mask, milking as much money from its followers as it can.

It makes me wish we could get a more mainstream historical-setting anime that dealt with times in Japan's interesting religious history (it'd at least be a change of pace from the far more typical war-focused fare, following rulers and samurai etc). It seems it's always "new religion" groups that fund anything along those lines.

Still waiting on the Vatican to hit up on Ghilbi again or some random anime studio to do a Book of Revelations anime to get the “kids to church again and show the Bible has action.”
I literally forgot the anime but I do know UAE or some Islamic country got an anime studio to animate and help fund a movie based on Prophet Muhammad’s father Abdullah in the Quran during the Battle of Badr (if I remembered correctly someone correct me if I’m wrong).

The Journey by Toei and Yokohama Animation Lab? Well, it was based around Year of the Elephant events (and not Battle of Badr), and not really about Abd al-Muttalib (grandfather of Muhammad) himself - though yeah, it sure had a lot of religious elements.

Heh, back in Catholic grade school we made do with Hanna-Barbera's "The Greatest Adventure."

Wow I had no idea about that, there's no little info on these movies. I guess that's why Naze Ikiru felt so weird, I thought it was just me not knowing anything about Buddhism.

There were two bible anime made by Tatsunoko before; Superbook and The Flying House that were co-funded by Pat Robertson's Christian Broadcasting Network.

I seriously doubt an uptick in Buddhist, Taoist or Shinto based stories being adapted into anime is going to equate to the likelihood of more Christian or Abrahamic religion anime.
