Somewhat related; Discord also dismissed about 17% of their workforce.

For what it's worth, Discord gave its workers a very generous severance package.

There's definitely a multitude of factors at work here. Prime Video is notorious for spending like crazy to get celebrities and books into shows, only for the shows to flop on their face as the service becomes known as "Streaming for your Dad" with stuff like Reacher and The Boys being their most consistent hits. Twitch, meanwhile, has allegedly never been profitable.

It sucks to start the year losing your job.

Yeah, one of the extremely few times where with something like this they did right by them. I don't remember the exact details, but it was something like...five months salary (+ bonuses), extended benefits, Health coverage all throughout 2024, and some other stuff.

Can't find the link but there was a recent article about the release of Netflix viewing data that highlighted popular programmes actually watched is totally different than ones that are popular on social networks.

I'm a sci-fi fan and would love to get more of that genre produced on TV but that isn't happening. What most people want to watch is police procedurals and reality shows and that is what streaming services will produce now that spending splurge is over they have to make a profit.

For me, thanking I've discovered Anime and there is more than enough to give me my sci-fi fix Smile
